It has been a hot week here and there are most likely more warm days to come before winter. So how about a refreshing cup of iced coffee? While it’s easy to get a cup of cold-brewed coffee or a couple shots of espresso and cold water over ice, how about something a little different at one of these locations that highlight the international origins of iced coffee.
Caffe Shakerato at Aldo Coffee
This Italian drink is shaken with ice, thus the name “shakerato.” It’s simple, but delicious: espresso and sugar shaken with ice and then poured (without ice) into a Martini glass. I first had this delicious treat in Italy, but the folks over at Aldo Coffee make a great one, too.
Vietnamese iced coffee at Vietnam’s Pho
Sweetened condensed milk, dark coffee, and ice. Simple, but delicious. The coffee is usually brewed with a metal press that allows the coffee to drip directly into a serving of sweetened condensed milk. When the coffee is ready, stir the mixture and pour over ice.
Thai iced coffee at the Smiling Banana Leaf
What separates Thai iced coffee from the others is the variety of spices that might find their way into your glass. Cardamom is in most every cup, along with medium or dark roast coffee, cream, and sugar. I’m not sure what they put in the iced coffee at the Smiling Banana Leaf, but cinnamon and almond extract are also popular additions.
