A variation of the classic Daiquirí is the Bacardi Cocktail which was also the subject of a 1936 court ruling that not only protects the Bacardi name, but ensures that consumers are entitled to receive exactly what they order when calling a brand name at the bar. The Bacardi Cocktail is part of Bacardi legacy and cocktail history.At the time of the court ruling a restaurant owner was selling ‘Bacardi Cocktails’ without using Bacardi Rum. Bacardi was just as highly regarded a brand then as it is now. Protecting the family name and business was and still is a matter of honor and pride. Bacardi paved the way for the protection of all brands by filing a law suit. The Bacardi Cocktail became the center of Supreme Court controversy. The Supreme Court granted a win for a Bacardi, consumers and essentially all liquor brands.
Bacardi Cocktail – Dale DeGroff’s version, The Essential Cocktail
1-1/2 ounce Bacardi Superior
3/4 ounce Simple Syrup
3/4 ounce Fresh Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Grenadine
Combine ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to blend and chill. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
