If you remember last week I started an ongoing project to make bacon vodka. Here is a detailed list of the complicated 10 step process.
Step 1: Cook Bacon to just before crispy
Step 2: Eat some bacon
Step 3: Put bacon in a sterile mason jar
Step 4: Repeat Step 2
Step 5: Pour vodka in the mason jar
Step 6: Repeat Step 2
Step 7: Seal the jar
Step 8: Repeat Step 2
Step 9: Place in refrigerator
Step 10: Repeat Step 2
I used 2 slices Applewood Deep Smoke Bacon which was lightly peppered and 8 ounces of Ketel One vodka. I only made a small batch because I wasn't going to waste good vodka if this experiment turned out badly. I have to say... so far, so good. I'm liking bacon vodka. Taking a sip you can defiantly taste the bacon, but it isn't overpowering. I let mine sit in the refrigerator for 5 days. That gave it more than enough time for the flavor to infuse.
I had a suggestion to try to make a chocolate bacon martini. I liked the idea, but I made a few changes. I changed the martini to a layered shot. I used Crème de Cacao for my chocolate.
I would like to officially introduce to you the Grandi-Oso Royale. Named for the person who suggested the drink. So be sure to leave me feedback and maybe I'll make a drink and name it after you! How cool will your friends think you are if you had a cocktail named in your honor? The answer is... SUPER COOL!
As gross as the drink sounds, it is actually very good.

Grandi-Oso Royale with drunken bacon

3/4 ounce Crème de Cacao
3/4 ounce Bacon infused Vodka
1 part sense of adventure
Garnish with a small piece of drunken bacon.
Crème de Cacao has a thicker constancy than the vodka, so pour that onto your shot glass first, then lightly pour the vodka on top.
In addition to bacon infused vodka I made some bacon infused bourbon. Check back for weekly updates on more drinks I will be making with my bacon infused spirits.
Cheers!

The Grandi-Oso Royale sounds pretty tasty. Hopefully no one chokes on the garnish. This does not sound like a healthy drink. Perhaps comparable to a shot of used cooking oil. I'll take mine with two eggs and a side of pancakes.
There was very little to no grease. The bacon was cooked almost to crisp so strips were not greasy. If that is a concern, blot with paper towel before placing in the vodka.
Bacon and vodka: two of nature's most perfect foods. Why in the world didn't Homer Simpson think of this?
Doh!
Love the name!! This is the best recipe I think I have ever read. I look forward to step 2.
While I think the name is great, I think the bacon is the best part of the recipe. :)
That is freakin retarted
I'm sorry you feel that way. These days it seems like almost every new cocktail is a rehash of something else. I can't tell you haw many drinks I have seen with different names, but they are all the same ingredients. I'm just trying to do something new and fun. I didn't expect most people would get it, I have to say I was surprised with the all positive feedback I have received. Yours is the only negative response I have seen. If you have a idea or a subject you would like me to profile, shoot me an email at drinkexaminer@gmail.com
And yet, I never believed in soul mates until finding this page. TESTIFY ! Thank you for enlightening the masses on yet another savoury reason why Bacon should be a lifestyle rather than side dish.
Thanks for the recipes. I am writing a blog on vodka infusions and I will link to this post.

All the best!
I know that it seems unhealthy, but it really isn't the FAT from the bacon that is infused. Rather, the fat could become chunky... If there is an excess of fat, put the infusion in the freezer and then once the fat has coagulated, then let it run through a filter or 2. But, really its not the fat that tastes good in bacon, the fat helps, it's really that yummy flavor that you are capturing in the vodka!
