Apple pie pastries have been consumed long before Americans coined the phrase ‘as American as Apple Pie.’ Children of the 1970’s generation may remember the jingle ‘baseball, hot dogs, Apple Pie and Chevrolet,’ used in television advertising campaigns. Rumor has it that the innocent apple had a falling out with the public during the Prohibition Era. It seems good drinks turned bad (ie: apple cider) and the good apple became a disreputable fruit and was no longer the apple of Mom’s eye. Slogans such as ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away’ and ‘as American as Apple Pie’ buffed apple’s waxy coat and returned its shining reputation. 

 

America continues its love affair with the beloved Apple Pie. The 2002 edition of the Farmer’s Almanac listed Apple Pie as the dessert readers felt was most American. It seems only appropriate this legendary dessert should be included in fall recipes and at Thanksgiving meals this holiday season. However, as American as baked Apple Pie happens to be with its widely varying recipes, toast this holiday season with quick and easy no bake Apple Pie drink recipes.
