Leopold Bros. Georgia Peach Whiskey

Tiny batch Georgia Peach Whiskey from Leopold Bros.

Georgia Peach Whiskey from the Leopold Bros. was recommended to me by a friend, and I’m recommending it you, friend.

Originating in a former brake factory in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Todd Leopold the brew master and master distiller, and his brother Scott, an environmental engineer, started a small brew pub. Everything was built using organic and / or recycled materials, leaving as little pollution and carbon footprint as possible. In 2008, the brothers relocated to Denver, Colorado, and quit the beer-brewing business to concentrate on micro-distilling only.

They create very small batch (180-300 bottles) liqueurs, vodka, rum, gin, absinthe and flavored whiskeys from 40-gallon handmade copper pot stills. They win many awards.

The Georgia Peach Whiskey uses Freestone and Clingstone Georgia Peaches off a June harvest. These fruits are pitted, juiced, and blended with the whiskey, which is aged in used bourbon barrels. The result is a sweet brown color with a hint of orange, thick but smooth, with a light nose, fruit-first at the tip and nice long summer finish to warm your heart.

The labels don’t look like much, but they are all hand numbered with the batch number, indicating the date.

There are some wonderful cocktail recipes for the Georgia Peach Whiskey off their website, but I found that it works wonders in the classic Sex on the Beach:

Sex on a Georgia Beach

  • 2 oz. vodka
  • 1 oz Leopold Bros. Peach Whiskey
  • 1.5 oz orange juice
  • 1.5 oz cranberry juice

Build the ingredients one at a time in a tall Collins glass filled with ice, garnish with an orange and cherry.
