Four rockin' Cabo Wabo tequila shot cocktail recipes

A Spaceman's Shot

Sammy Hagar sent me these recipes. Well, not really. But the publicity arm of Cabo Wabo tequila, the Red Rocker’s own blend of agave alcohol, did. These will spice up the usual lick-salt-shot-lime shooters you’re doing this hot hot summer.

Spaceman’s Shot
1 ½ oz Cabo Wabo Blanco Tequila
3 dashes Tabasco sauce
Cover the bottom of a shot glass with tabasco sauce and fill with tequila. Drink, then cool off by sucking on the lime.

BevMo didn’t have Cabo Wabo Blanco, so I got Cabo Reposado instead. If you want to know the difference, check this article out. I also didn’t have tabasco, so I substituted Tapatio instead.

This shot is a two-stage rocket, with a back end slow burn, the duration dependent on the strength of the hot sauce booster.

Sammy Slammer

Sammy Slammer
1 oz. Cabo Reposado Tequila
½ oz almond liqueur
Splash of 151 proof rum

Layer tequila and liqueur in a shot glass and float 151 rum atop. Ignite the top with a lighter and serve. Extinguish flame and drink.

I used Amaretto as the almond liqueur, and the Wray & Nephew overproof rum instead of 151. The rum, which only needs to be over 80 proof, has to be warmed up so the alcohol evaporates. Either put some in a shot glass (NOT a metal jigger) and microwave for ten seconds, or put some in a spoon and hold over a flame for five-ten seconds, then layer into the shot glass. The booze should catch with a cool blue flame. Let it go for just a few seconds, cover with an empty shot glass until the fire goes out, then serve and shoot.

This one is an ass-kicker, the only one that choked me up. Maybe my definition of a splash is a little different than the recipe’s.

All I Want Is This Shot

All I Want Is This Shot
1 oz Cabo Blanco Tequila
½ oz orange liqueur
½ oz Carolans Irish Cream
Carefully layer each ingredient as follows: orange liqueur, Cabo tequila, Carolans Irish Creame. Slam the shot.

Good luck on getting a good layering, the cream in mine resembled Magic Rocks. It’s very tasty, though.

Finally, some dessert. I recommend sticking with añejo tequila for this one.

Hella Good Shot
2 oz Cabo Anejo tequila
Orange slice
Powdered cinnamon

Chill a shot glass and then wet the rim with the orange slice, then immediately rim the glass with the cinnamon on a plate. Shake the Cabo with ice in a shaker for a few seconds and strain it into the shot glass. Slam the shot and bite the orange slice. Yum!

And I have to say: * These recipes do not imply any type of celebrity endorsement or official involvement with the artists, their music or their tours.”

¡Salud!

Aaron - We tried the All I Want Is Shot, and got the Magic Rocks effect too. I can't see how to suspend a heavy liquor like Carolan's on top. Maybe a real bartender can chime in here.

Nevertheless, it was a waste of good liquor. We could've made a Margarita that would've rocked. Nice article tho.

    Hey Brian

Yeah, I couldn't get a good layer, either. I figured since I was going to down it one shot, looks didn't matter. I wouldn't recommend Irish Cream in a margarita, either. Cheers!

Maybe if you chill the Carolan's and warm the others?

    @ Peter

Hmm, good idea. I think my Carolan's was chilled, though (as it should be after opening). One to try again!
