Huge crowd expected for Atlanta Taxpayer Tea Party, more speakers announced

Yesterday organizers appealed for funds to help support the Tax Day Tea Party to be held at the State Capitol on the evening of Wednesday, April 15. Organizers are now estimating that the crowd could be as large as 5,000-10,000, partly due to the fact that Fox News personality Sean Hannity will be broadcasting live from the Atlanta event.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich sent out an appeal for funds as well. Due to the large crowd, organizers must construct a stage and bring in professional sound equipment and big-screen TVs. This will cost an estimated $25,000, so fundraising is in full swing

There will be a live band at the event, and more speakers have been announced. In addition to Hannity, former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, and John Rich of the country act " Big and Rich,” Georgia Congressmen Tom Price and Lynn Westmoreland are also expected to speak. This is word from Jared Thomas, State Director of Americans for Prosperity, another sponsoring organization for the Atlanta event.

According to Thomas, however, Atlanta's is not the only Tea Party in the state of Georgia. Outside of the Atlanta area, AFP activists will be involved in Tea Parties in the following cities across the state: Albany, Athens, Augusta, Blairsville, Blackshear, Columbus, Eastman, Gainesville, Leesburg, Macon, Richmond Hill, Rome, Sandersville, and Savannah.

All of the events focus on the day’s theme of cutting taxes and reducing government spending. The events are nonpartisan and open to the public.

Organizers are encouraging participants to ride MARTA if possible, since there will be great deal of traffic downtown that evening. In addition to the Tea Party, there will also be a Braves game at Turner Field taking place at the same time. (See the links below for more information.)
