The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of voters gauging their opinions on global warming reflects Americans are growing more skeptical of the manmade climate change theory. Whether a reflection of a failing economy and their reluctance to confront what could be an expensive issue or if it is that they have a stronger opinion on the issue, Americans’ doubts continue to grow.
The poll was revealing on a number of fronts. Fewer Americans believe there is consensus in the scientific community, they are not seeing the United Nations as an honest broker in the discussion and perhaps most troubling, they express doubts about the integrity of scientists.
The poll shows that a majority of Americans believe there is still an ongoing debate within the scientific community about global warming. This likely reflects the fact that there is still a great deal of dissention among some scientists as is reflected in the ongoing Climategate email scandal and seen in recent months by some of the infighting of professional scientific groups.
Americans, with their fierce beliefs in independence, have traditionally been wary of the United Nations and its ‘one world’ view. Their concerns about the world body reflect themselves in the poll as a mere 22% of Americans believe the UN is a trustworthy source of information about global warming. A group bordering on a majority, 49%, do not believe the UN is a reliable source. Only 29% even view the UN as an ally of the United States at all.
Perhaps most troubling for climate scientists are the results that seems to show Americans questioning their integrity. A majority of Americans, 59%, said they think it is ‘somewhat likely’ or ‘very likely’ that scientists have falsified data to fit their own opinions about global warming. A healthy 35% say it is very likely and a mere 26% believe it is not very or not at all likely.
In the wake of the Climategate scandal, this would seem to not bode well for portions of the scientific community that find itself under siege. The head of Britain's Climate Research Unit, Phil Jones, is under investigation for the contents of some of the emails that were released and Michael Mann of Penn State University is also being probed for the same.
Some of the other highlights of the survey:
- 46% believe global warming is a “major problem”; 36% disagree
- 47% believe that natural causes are the primary factor behind climate change
- By a two to one margin voters are greatly concerned that cap and trade will hurt the economy
- 31% believe Al Gore is an expert on climate change

Specific scientists have placed themselves in the position of Gods. Having used their influence granted through more than $40-million from the tax payers, they have abused the trust afforded to them placing a dark cloud over the scientific community as a whole. Surely, science will recover from this event as time heals all wounds.
The hubris of denial by these abusers of social trust, along with their followers, of the devastating magnitude of their deceptive and deviant activity, while trying to maintain their stature in civilization, is incomprehensible. This denial will continue dragging the entire scientific community into the pit. Unfortunately, a self awakened reality of their misdeeds likely will not appear until admission followed by humility becomes obvious to society. Forgiveness is the divinity of our civilization but forgetting never can be allowed.

Dano It is a shame really as while I may not agree, your comments sometimes truly lent themselves to the debate and helped folks perform their own critical thinking on this very important topic. Unfortunately though you chose to continue pushing the envelope despite repeated warnings. Three strikes and youre out. Any further comments from you will be deleted.
This just continues the trend that has been seen in this and other polls over the last year or two. People are growing more skeptical as they become more aware of the issues. Climategate had nothing to do with it. If you read the poll it says that few respondents had followed the story.
Attention, Canadian and American citizens we are so close to losing our Sovereignty and our Freedom, is barely hanging by a thread! Make your voice and your rights known, as you are the boss not the politicans you voted into power!
Time is getting short and it is coming down to the fact, that soon ( December 7 to December 18 ) I will have to pray to the good Lord to maintain our freedoms and that God will not allow our leaders to sign the Copenhagen Treaty, which will take away our liberties, let go and let God, this being a challenge to our Lord and Saviour? However, while there is still time to prevent the loss of a lifetime, perhaps loss of life it's self - I will do what I am able to fight for our freedoms! The whole Climate Change agenda is a proven fraud and racketeering, but the United Nations and Globalist governments don't care as that is just the excuse instrument they have used to ensnare us, they are going to try to push it through anyway!
Attacking those who have claimed collusion amongst climate scientists as 'conspiracy theorists' constitutes an 'ad hominem' attack. It ignores some real evidence of collusion and attempts to paint them as a bunch of nuts in order to hide an unpleasant reality.
Psychiatrists have a saying that goes "It ain't paranoia when they're really after you." In this case, it is no longer a conspiracy THEORY once the conspiracy is demonstrated.
The recent email release shows leaders in the climate research field engaged in some extraordinarily unprofessional behavior -- including suborning the peer review process, denying access to and threatening destruction of raw data and cooking the analysis to fit preordained conclusions.
Such actions, if proven, would end the careers of many scientists.
Whatever your views on CO2 and climate, dismissing these acts as 'no big deal' and painting those who call attention to them as 'conspiracy nuts' only strengthens the deniers arguments. --PEACE. M
