Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. Based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the Cult of Michael Jackson plans to change the pop icon's lyrics into scripture.
After Michael Jackson's untimely death on June 25, 2009, he has become almost more legendary than when he was alive, if that's possible, and has been elevated to near-martyrdom status by some of his fans. Brooklyn-based artist, Rusel Parish, who was already a Michael Jackson fan and trivia buff, was already going to open a Chapel and exhibit dedicated to Michael Jackson's humanitarian messages in September. The September 4th opening of the sanctuary, part of Figureworks (www.figureworks.com), is now eerily appropriate. Hoping to spread Michael Jackson's worldwide message of love, peace and cultural understanding, Parish's exhibit had been scheduled to coincide with MJ's world tour. Parish's salient work "brings together pop expressionism with religious iconography and is a study of how media and cultural obsession can meet in a powerful way, multiplying images and ideas globally.
