Unrestored in original paint, this coupe was owned and driven by Ettore Bugatti himself.
The automotive world expects that Ettore Bugatti's personal 57C will win the title of world's most expensive car when it is auctioned off at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August. Experts anticipate that bidding will exceed the price paid for a 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa that was sold in May for $12.1 million.
Workers at Bugatti's factory built this car as a 55th birthday present to the patron in 1936. It wears one-of-a-kind body work designed by Bugatti's son Jean, and is believed to be one of his last designs.
The car was sold to a collector in 1950, has had but a few owners and remains an unrestored original. Rare, unrestored cars in good condition like this one routinely bring higher prices than restored examples. This car's originality combined with its provenance and an auction at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours should bring sky-high bids. Estimates of a final sales price run around $15 million. I'll be there and will let you know.
You could spend $15 million and drive this old crate home. Or, as Volkswagen Rabbits now retail around $15,000, you could buy 1,000 brand new hatchbacks instead and drive a different, brand-new car every day for three years before repeating one.

Wow-- such a pretty car. I'd have to take the one over the VW assortment... though driving a new car every day would be fun, the number of interesting people you meet multiplies when you are driving a luxury, classic, or exotic car x 3! :)
