Joe Wilson's "You lie" leads to campaign gold

Republican Congressman Joe Wilson

US Republican Congressman Joe Wilson has raised a $750,000 dollars in campaign money in the 48 hours that followed him shouting out in Congress "You lie!" at President Obama.

He has raised over a million dollars total since the incident happened back on September 9th. To put it all in perspective thats more money then he raised in two years for his last reelection campaign.

Does this surprise anyone that a white Southern Congressman would raise that kind of money for saying our black president lied? I don't remember any congressman yelling you lied during a George Bush speech, even though we know he did. For that matter during another presidents speech in recent history. Maybe that's because all those other presidents were white and Obama is black.

He made his comments because of his belief that the health care bill will provide insurance coverage for illegals. Which by the way it doesn't include that in the bill, maybe if he had read the bill than he would know that. It could also be that he did in fact read the bill and did in fact know it did not contain that, but just didn't care. If that was the case then you Joe Wilson lied.

Perhaps Joe Wilson lied too when he said "I truly support civility" and "I believe people should be courteous and civil" because clearly what he did was neither one of the two. Maybe his son lied when he said his dad did not have a racist bone in his body.

Racism is alive and well in America today and anyone who claims other wise is a liar. It is especially alive in the South, like in the state Joe Wilson is from. White Americans have this superiority complex and generally do believe that they are better then the rest of us. Now I am not saying all white people do feel this way but alot do feel that way. When white people say that they are not racist and their opposition to Obama is genuine, well maybe you are too blind to see that you are in fact racist and it's that racism that is driving you opposition.

This columnist is a racist against white people. Come on do you really believe what you wrote? People in glass houses should not throw stones.

You have a right to your opinion but I disagree. Yes, Wilson should not have said "You lie" in a joint session of Congress but his You Lie outburst did lead to Democrats closing the loophole that would allow illegal immigrants to receive health care. I don't like that the President is expanding government and taking over banks, car companies, etc. I also disagreed with Bush when he did this. Just because people disagree with our President does not make them racist. Were black people racist when they disagreed with Bush? Let's focus on the issues facing our country and leave the race card on the table.

Sorry, but this is kind of like saying that just because you disagree with Israeli policies toward the Palestinians, you are ant-semitic. However, if anyone really wants to help in a constructive way to send a message to Joe Wilson, his challenger in 2010 is Rob Miller, he has a fundraising page over at Act Blue. Rob raised over $900,000 in the 48 hours after the "You lie" incident. Please consider contributing.

Joe Wilson is my hero for having the guts to call Obama out for trying to pull the wool over the American people's eyes. Lets deal with deporting all the illegals first, and then see what makes sense for health care.

I am not sure if the comment was racially motivated, mostly because of the fact of Joe Wilson's background, it's sketchy. But you do not EVER say something disrespectful to the President, ANY PRESIDENT, while he is addressing congress. It is a respect for the office of the President, and ALL (even Wilson) congressmen know this. Joe Wilson should be kicked out period. He knew what he was doing and he decided to act like a 15 year old with raging hormones.

I also think that most people who oppose Obama are not opposing because they are racist. It is these kinds of comments that get us nowhere fast. I like Obama, I supported him when everyone was still on the Clinton bandwagon way before Iowa, I disagree with some of the health care policies. I have serious concerns about the plan and I am sure many other people have the same concerns, however it doesn't make us racist. I can't deny there is much racism still, but when we get to the point where disagreeing with our black president makes you a racist, that is extremely pathetic. It makes me very uneasy that everything that goes wrong must have a racial meaning behind it. THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

All an illegal has to do to get free anything is to go to the local human services office. they don't check anything. this was proven last year. wilson is right...and he is a hero for standing up to these liars, whether it be pelosi, reed, or obama. YOU, sir are the racist in this room! you are a disgrace to journalism.

I believe you have a very good point. If Joe Wilson recieve all that donation for his disrespectful behavior, something is morally wrong with that. Since the bill does not provide for illegals, then Joe Wilson's protest was unfound. Before you stand up for whats right you must be right first. So you cant be in support of a congressman standing up for whats right when he is obviously wrong, so to those who support him! Why? I havent read one good answer to that because there is none. Some (responders)may be racists too, because if you not you shouldnt defend a racist: you simply call them out. And yes! there is a lot of protests going on out there that is racially motivated. The organizers behind these protests are racist, and that can be proven. FOX news have their own political agenda that have nothing to do with the rest of us. They Lied and distort things. Small Government- Large Government- Large Spending Small spending is not what we should be worried about. Makes no differen

The reaction from the democrats on joe wilson words it's more about touching a deep still bleeding wound in the body of democratic party. It is that wound which was caused by the lost of the once democratic south because of johnson's declaration that every man white or black should be equal. Since then the republicans with the white votes from the south were able to hold the power in washington most of the time. Republicans are taking the south now for granted but I can imagine, that elderly people who used to vote for the democrats before johnson's declaration could change the partyline again, if Obama should prove them wrong.

How juvenile. "It's racism". His popularity ratings were huge post election. He was elected by an incredible margin. Now, when he's going back on his campaign promises, if anyone disagrees...play the race card. Why don't you try to refute the actual basis for the dispute. Your days of whining racism are over with a black colored president in office.

Time to look at the facts, and be color blind yourself.

Joe Wilson does not deserve the respect of another vote. Only people of his ilk will contribute money for his next campaign. I think the Democrats are right in wanting him disciplined. He should apologize to Contress as a whole and on televisiton. I had to watch his misconduct on tv and he should apologize on tv.
