Maria Rocha, an undocumented police officer in Phoenix, praises Barack Obama’s decision to give amnesty to undocumented immigrants who have not committed any crime. “The White people who are upset about this should ask the Native Americans how they feel.” Tomas Fuentes, an undocumented professor, agrees.
“We are not illegal immigrants. We are Mexicans who are here to get our land back that was stolen from us.” Mr. Fuentes says Obama is not only a hero to the African American community, but a hero to Latinos as well. “
Manuel Longoria of Phoenix-based Nuestros Reconquistos believes that President Obama should go further in his amnesty plans. “If someone committed a serious crime, I’m not against deportation. However, although drunk driving and identity theft are crimes, people who commit them should not have to be deported if they pay fines and serve time for their crimes.”
