They say that places have memories...a building holds all of the events of the past in ghost-like fashion. Stand in the middle of an empty, gutted out building, close your eyes, and you can get a sense of the people and things that have been before.
I've composed a list of places in New Orleans that have been a part of my life. Add some of your own in comments.
- I danced to the Talking Heads at Andy Capps on Carrollton wearing a beret and Madonna lace gloves (does this show my age)
- Whilst studying Literature at Loyola, I played pool at the OLD Ms. Mae's, where most nights you could occasionally get a glimpse of the portly bird herself
- Speaking of Loyola, Touchdown Jesus?
- My Aunt Velma took the bus every Saturday from Esplanade and Broad to Carrollton and Canal to get her hair done at Antionette's
- I saved up all week just to get a burger at Snug Harbor
- I remember Until Waiting Fills
- I started working at the Windsor Court Hotel as a cocktail waitress in the 1984 (the year it opened). After, we would walk down to the World's Fair to hear the Nevilles.
- Saw Nathan and the Zyedco Cha-Chas on a Friday night at the Rock and Bowl, then danced to them the following night at Richard and Jennifer's wedding.
- Got kicked out of a Pool Bar on Tchoupitoulas because one of us was black.
- Our family attorney, Corwin B. Reed, took me to Ruth's Chris Steak House the night I graduated from Loyola
- I got married at the Golden Spaceship on St. Charles.
- I remember three-for-one Tuesdays at Que Sera...barely.
- Charlie's Steak House off Napoleon anyone?
- Studying at PJ's on Maple (the old one on the other side of the road).
- Spinach bread from My Daily Bread on St. Charles
- Drinking daiquiris and eating cheese curly fries at Daiquiris at the River Bend after school. Did we drive after? I'm embarrassed to say, yes.
- Camellia Grill
- My Uncle Cleave put three kids through college slinging coffee at Cafe Du Monde.
- Eating Manuel's Hot Tamales and drinking beer on the lakefront.
- Getting drunk on mint juleps at the Columns Hotel in the middle of a hurricane.

Daneeta,
I agree that places have memories. I have seen it again and again during my years in Eastern Europe. And yes, I also used to have Madonna lace gloves...I miss them!
Silvia
I remember Aunt Velma's. Once, we wanted to call you their(pre-cell phones of course) and weren't sure if she was listed under Aunt or Velma?
