On the floor of the Senate, Thursday, Sen. Harry Reid (Dem., Nev.) was trying to explain why the Democrats are opposed to putting anything in the pending health care legislation which would place a cap on medical malpractice claims.
HARRY REID: "He talked about CBO saying that there would be $54 billion saved each year if we put caps on medical malpractice and put some restrictions — tort reform — $54 billion. Sounds like a lot of money, doesn’t it, Mr. President? The answer is yes. But remember, were talking about $2 trillion, $54 billion compared to $2 trillion. You can do the math. We can all do the math. Its a very small percent."
Yes, Senator Reid, we can do the math. There are now 305,529,237 people living in this country. If annual health care expenditures are going to be 2 trillion dollars, then this amounts to $6,546.02 for every man, woman, and child. A family of 4, for example, will have to come up with $26,184.07. Every year.
President Obama has promised not to raise taxes on people earning less than $200,000.00 per year, and has vowed not to increase the national debt “by one nickel.” Right.

Well, duh!
The CBO said tort reform might save about 1/2 of one percent of total health care costs. That means total health care costs are already about $2 trillion per year. "You can do the math." That's already "$6,546.02 for every man, woman, and child. A family of 4, for example, will have to come up with $26,184.07. Every year."
Again, that's what we're already spending. You can't blame that on the proposed health insurance reform. It's part of the reason why we need reform!

Your position is like trying to put out fire with gasoline. Obamacare is fixing a broken system with an even more broken system. They pay lip service to tort reform, but have no real desire to go there because they get so much campaign money from tort attorneys.
