Atlantic City's tag line is "always turned on," but the Blizzard of 2010 has turned some lights off in the region.
Atlantic City Electric crews will have their work cut out for them this morning. High winds have knocked out power in spots all over southern New Jersey. The Atlantic City Electric map indicated as of 4 a.m. more than 30,000 people had lost power in the storm.
(See list of affected areas below).
With only a few hours of the storm having passed, the barrier islands of Cape May and Atlantic City have been walloped by black outs. 5,000 homes and businesses on the northern tip of Atlantic City and the Venice Park section are in the dark.
In Cape May County, a red zone has been declared on the electric map in the Wildwoods and southern tip of Cape May where more than 5,000 people are without electricity.
The storm is raging on with at least eight inches of accumulated snow at 4 a.m. in the heaviest locations. Snow and blizzard conditions are expected to continue throughout Saturday. High winds and freezing temperatures will hamper electric crews in restoring power. Listen to local radio for more information.
