Jesse O. Kurtz
Full remarks from Monday's press conference
Today is a great day for the Kurtz for Mayor Team. I thank everyone who put the time into designing the billboard, obtaining this billboard, and raising the money to place this billboard where residents will see a message that they know all too well, “You Know What Atlantic City Could Really Use? A New Mayor!”
Many Atlantic City residents will see this billboard when they return from grocery shopping offshore. Why is this? I thought that we were getting a supermarket in Atlantic City. Or that is what you would think when listening to the current Mayor. The current Mayor said in July 22’s Press of Atlantic City, I quote, "That horse has been let out of the barn already, so to speak, … We're so far ahead that they wouldn't be able to catch up to us with our project." In fact, the Current Mayor had one of his standard press conferences - with neither fact, nor substance - back in June’s Primary Election. The Mayor said he was bringing a grocery store to town. Do you see a grocery store being built in Atlantic City; because I do not see one? Atlantic City can use a grocery store, and we can really use a new mayor.
Hundreds of jobs have been lost in our town. Now, more than ever, Atlantic City needs both new development and expansion of existing development. The economy is tough. In addition, our elected officials have given developers the impression that it does not matter how good and meritorious a project is. It matters which elected official you know and how much you are bribing them. So what does our Mayor do? He publicly acknowledges negotiating with potential developers in violation of the request for proposal guidelines. Our elected officials were indicted and convicted a few years ago because they conducted improper negotiations with developers outside of the proper channels. Atlantic City does not need elected officials who have contempt for the proper and legal development process. What Atlantic City really needs is a new Mayor.
Violence is escalating in our town. One child killed through gun violence is too many. There have been multiple murders this year. Where is the Mayor on the issue of violence? The Mayor is furthering a personal feud with the Police and Fire Departments, rather than work with those departments to save our children and curb the violence. The current Mayor is vilifying our police and fire departments, whipping up the passions of the community, rather than address the problems of crime and violence. The Mayor is consistently casting both the police and the fire departments in a bad light with disgraceful press conferences and public demonstrations that are lacking both facts and evidence. Atlantic City needs the K-9 division back on the street, we need City Hall to work with Public Safety, not against Public Safety, and we need city government to address the violence on our streets. What Atlantic City really needs is a new Mayor.
The Mayor and City Council have failed to fulfill the promise of Atlantic City. They have failed to give us low taxes. They have failed to end the culture of corruption. They have failed to maintain adequately our infrastructure. And they have failed to treat residents with equality and justice. What Atlantic City really needs is a New Mayor; and three new Councilmen. Voters have the chance to change course by voting on November 3rd for what Atlantic City really needs, a new Mayor and 3 new Councilmen.
Comments
In the Federal Election the American People said, "Get rid of the Republicans. No more Bush policies." The reverse is true in Atlantic Ciy. "Get rid of the democrats. Or, in this case, one democrat."
