The Fenner Nature Center on East Mount Hope Road in Lansing, Michigan is an ideal location to hike, picnic, photograph nature and wildlife. If none of those activities interest you then you may just want to visit for a relaxing walk or enjoy the natural scenery of Michigan on one of the many benches.
The Fenner Nature Center covers 130 acres of property with a variety of habitat including three ponds, over four miles of trails, swamps, maple groves, and pine forests. Two of the main trails are blacktopped so provide access for those in wheelchairs or with little ones in strollers.
The Fenner Nature Center Mission Statement: "The Fenner Nature Center, a nonprofit organization, exists to facilitate the preservation of a natural environment within an urban setting for the health and well-being of all living things and to promote education and appreciation of the natural world."
Year round the Fenner Nature Center works to stand up to their mission statement by offering different programs, activities, and events for the public. In March you can enjoy the Maple Syrup Festival (from going to the pine woods to collect sap to making syrup) and in October is the Apple Butter Festival (learn to make apple butter and much more) to name just two. Other activities include bird watching tours, bug studies and learn how to use herbs from the garden to make soaps, lotions, and other things we use around the house.
