This historic location in Lansing, the Michigan Central Railroad Depot, was built in 1903 and later named the Union Depot. In 1978 Peter Jubeck purchased the building and transformed it into Clara's Lansing Station. This downtown Lansing restaurant is a great place to eat and at the same time take in the historic atmosphere. Oak wood, stained glass, and elaborate chandeliers are only a few of the decorations that grace Clara's.
Located just a few blocks from the Michigan State Capitol you have the choice of dinning in the depot (both downstairs and in the balcony area), in a railcar parked next to the depot, or on the patio when weather permits. With a 20 some page menu you are sure to find something to satisfy your palette for lunch or dinner or you may want to stop in for the Sunday brunch.
On the Michigan Historic Site sign outside Clara's Lansing Station:
"The Union Depot began passenger service for the Michigan Central and Pere Marquette Railroads in 1902. The Detroit architectural firm of Spier and Rohns, which planned many Michigan Central stations, designed the building with Chateauesque conical towers and cut stone arches. The depot closed in 1972. Restauranteur Peter Jubeck bought the building in 1978 and transformed it into an eatery, retaining the quarter-sawn oak interior and installing locally crafted stained glass windows."
