72-year-old Floyd Babb of Troy, Idaho was killed in a four car, chain reaction collision on Highway 95 south of Potlatch just after 9 a.m. Monday morning.
Idaho state patrol says Babb was northbound on US95 at milepost 359.6, entering a construction zone, when, for unknown reasons he failed to brake and rear-ended a Chevy Trailblazerbeing driven by 50 year-old Gregory D. Bybee, of Lapwai, Idaho. The impact caused Bybee’s vehicle to be pushed into the back of a Volkswagen Jettabeing driven by 52 year-old Barbara J. Vane, of Seattle. Vane’s Volkswagen was pushed into an unknown gray or silver sport utility vehicle. Police say the driver of the SUV left before they arrived on the scene. It is not known whether the driver of the SUV was injured, or whether there were any passengers in the SUV.
The hospitalized victims are eighty-eight year old Eileen M. Bodker, of Tacoma, who was a passenger in Vane’s Volkswagen, 31 year old Lawrence R. Babb, Greg Bybee and both of his passengers, 20 year-old Shine Bybee and 23 year-old Allie P. Bybee.Lawrence Babb was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center; all the other injured victims were taken to Gritman medical center, in Moscow. The conditions of the injured victims have not yet been released.
The Idaho State Patrol is investigating whether alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
