Contestant on NBC's "The Biggest Loser"
Washington is not one of the fattest states in the country. A new survey released Wednesday ranks Washington 28th with the number of obese adults and 33rd with obese and overweight children.
The Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation released the report, titled "F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies Are Failing in America 2009."
The city of Seattle holds an even higher honor: the No. 8 “fittest” city in the country, as reported in February by Men’s Fitness, which releases an annual “fittest” and “fattest” city guide.
Neighboring Oregon fared well in the obesity results, also, coming in at 28th in obese adults (out of 50 states and the District of Columbia), but ranking 49th with obese children, significantly better than Washington state.
When 50 states are ranked, of course someone has to accept the bad public relations of placing last (meaning highest rate of adult obesity). But Mississippi gets this designation for the fifth year in a row. And in recent years, no state’s education system has scored worse than Mississippi’s.
Adult obesity rates increased in 23 states and did not decrease in a single state in the past year, according to the report. In addition, the percentage of obese or overweight children is at or above 30 percent in 30 states.

Wait, is fatter better?
"...ranking 49th with obese children, significantly better than Washington state."
In this case, ranking "last," i.e. 50th, is ideal. That means your state has the fewest number of obese adults.
These numbers are scary. Makes me want to move my family to CO.
