General Motors (GM) is taking a preemptive safety precaution and issuing a recall on 1.5 million 2007-2009 cars and trucks. In a press release, GM said the recall centers around a "heated washer fluid system module that could post a fire risk." GM will pay customers $100 to vehicle owners, or even those who lease.

Milwaukee GM Customers Can Make an Appointment With Their Dealer for Recall Fix

Milwaukee-area customers can wait to receive a recall letter, which should go out this month, or make an appointment directly with their dealer. The heated washer system will then be removed on the cars. GM indicates that the models affected are:

  • 2006-2009 model year Buick Lucerne; Cadillac DTS; Hummer H2
  • 2008-2009 model year Buick Enclave; Cadillac CTS
  • 2007-2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL; Saturn Outlook
  • and 2009 model year Chevrolet Traverse.

No Known Crashes Involved With Heated Washer Fluid Feature

There was a recall in 2008 for the same feature, and dealers then installed an "in-line fuse in the heated washer module wiring." The government closed its investigation that same year, however, GM kept testing. While there are no known problems or crashes involved with this failed feature, GM is still issuing the recall.
