The Palmdale 'Crown Fire' reached LA County Thursday evening, July 30th. It burned 7 square miles and forced about 2,000 people from their homes Thursday night. The blaze has consumed 8,000 acres and is about 5% contained. It began around 3 p.m. Thursday on the north side of Sierra Highway at Anthony Road. Some evacuees have returned, but the fire continues to spread.
KTLA says, "Fire officials on Friday morning said the flames were burning dangerously close to power lines that supply electricity to Southern California. Air tankers were dropping water and fire retardant around that area in an effort to stop the flames from burning the power infrastructure."
"Several neighborhoods in west Palmdale are also being evacuated, including Rancho Vista, Ana Verde (between Avenue S and the California Aqueduct in South Palmdale), and The Boulders."
Local firefighters are receiving help from Sacramento crews today. About 50 firefighters on 10 fire engines drove through the night to reach the Palmdale fire. They could remain in the area for up to 2 weeks.
The Huffington Post reports, "Officials say no homes are in imminent danger early Friday but they expect another day of high heat and gusty afternoon winds that could hamper containment efforts near the dense suburbs of Palmdale. The fire is 12 1/2 square miles and 5 percent contained."
"Los Angeles County Deputy Fire Chief Michael Bryant says firefighters will concentrate on protecting homes and transmission lines that carry electricity to much of Southern California."
The Palmdale fire entered LA County last night. It has burned 8,000 acres, is still active, and is only 5% contained. The blaze burned 4 homes, caused approximately 2,000 evacuations, and still threatens power lines that support southern CA residents.

My name is Norene Beaver and I am Director of an organization called Out of the Ashes - we were created out of the ashes of our second home fire. I have a 17 page handout that I would like to get to the family. It is full of information on first steps, next steps and how to save items that many think are un-savable and how to get the most out of their insurance claim. If anyone knows how I might reach them, please email me at contact@outoftheasheswa.org. All services are offered free of charge. My prayers are with the family.
