Performing this past Saturday, August 14th at the Riverside Arts Market (RAM) was the highly acclaimed comedy group The Improv Effect. Taking the stage for their first time performing together in public were the ultra-charismatic and talented Coleen Ryder, Rachel Calandra, Warren Fryefield, Carol Waters, Joann Cohen, Julie Hellmuth, Bob Hawkinson, and Jack Nostrand. Though the crowd tried diligently to throw them off their game, their creative skills enlivened the funny bones of the all-ages crowd.
What’s the Improv Effect?
Founded by the joyous host of Saturday’s show, Jessica Shternshus, the Improv Effect plays improvisational games that require crowd input and interaction. Similar to the hit TV show Who’s Line Is It Anyways, participants must act within the parameters of a situation provided by the audience.
The players this past Saturday practiced and prepared together for several months and are part of the Level 2 performance course.
What you will find at RAM
As perhaps the best weekly cultural event in Jacksonville, the RAM hosts a variety of excellent area merchants and performers each Saturday downtown beneath the cover of the Fuller Warren Bridge. From unique art and fresh food, to one-of-a-kind jewelry and clothing, the RAM also provides live entertainment in the form of talented street performers and main stage musical artists. Recently they added a side stage, which is where the Improv Effect put on their interactive show.
