If you find yourself sitting in your gynecologist/obstetrician's office and oddly notice a display of skin care and makeup products for the other end of your body, no, you're not in the wrong place. 

If you also happen to notice brochures and before/after photos introducing facial services from chemical peels to laser skin treatments, you've just discovered the latest trend in full-service women's care. 

And you might very well be in one of the offices of Eastside Gynecology & Obstetrics, who has three flourishing locations - two in Macomb County and one in Wayne County.

The addition of Eastside Skin Care & Laser Center at the Roseville office is highlighted by some of Eastside's own logo'd skin treatment products. The clinic's services and products brings a whole new level of care for women. And, there is a very reasonable explanation as to why. 

Until recently it has also been a little known service for patients, and among Detroit's City Secrets.

"This came about as a result of patients' requests," said gynecologist and obstetrician John Knapp, M.D. "There was a genuine need for services like laser hair removal, so we decided the time had come."

Registered nurse Kim Evans agrees vigorously to the need for Eastside's treatments and is in charge of managing them. The former oncology and hematology nurse once administered chemotherapy and also worked in home patient care. For the past six years, she's been certified in tendering dermabrasion and dispensing Botox among her numerous procedures.

"Women began asking about the ability to flatten and lighten scars caused by C-sections and appendectomies, as well as the removal of spider veins on their legs and faces," Evans said. "The time came to address that and more treatments grew from their requests."

Women's skin issues are not just the result of cellular changes, collagen depletion, hormone loss, and damages caused by free radicals. Often, a combination of factors is the cause, and pre-treatment screening helps zero in on how to treat them.

It begins with a complimentary consultation at either the Roseville office on Little Mack south of 13 Mile Road, or the Macomb office at 23 Mile Road and Romeo Plank,  located within the St. John Professional Building. Potential clients answer questions about medications and skin type to determine problems and desired results.

Jane Iredale's makeup line was the first to feature mineral contents.

Evans' expertise in aiding oncology patients was a natural introduction to the needs of people who suffer with esteem or confidence problems, too.

"There is an emotional correlation between the fields of oncology and skin care," she said. "Chemo patients can use an uplifting experience - and their skin also changes during cancer and chemotherapy. It tends to be drier, and is nutritionally affected."

Working with that convinced Evans that helping people find better versions of themselves was rewarding when they again gained confidence. She works her magic five days a week, including one late evening, and two Saturdays per month. Each appointment averages 30-40 minutes.
