This past Wednesday marks the day of yet another violent crime in Orangeburg county. According to eye witness accounts at the time, an unidentified male was shot while walking down Magnolia Street. Reports indicate that a vehicle pulled up to the victim as he was walking and unloaded a series of shots. The victim was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC at around 1 pm. He is currently listed in critical condition. The victim is reported to be in his 20's.
Orangeburg county has long been known for its rampant crime rate and local citizens have routinely expressed concern, disgust and anger over the increasingly violent nature of crimes committed in the city. There seems to be a direct correlation between the types of crimes committed with areas that are in the older portions of the city. Although Orangeburg has done a series of improvements to the older parts of the city, many citizens have migrated away from these areas. Statistically, Orangeburg, SC exceeds the national average in violent crimes, in these areas: murder, rape, aggravated assaults and robberies according to reports on Orangeburg Area Connect crime.
Orangeburg county needs help from its citizens in assisting solving their crimes. In order to improve the quality of life for all its citizens. It is imperative that residents continue to step up the plate and cooperate with their local sheriff's department when crimes of a violent nature occur. There is information out there that would be of help to the law enforcement officers if people would take the time to make a stand and squash crime in the area. Although crime can not be prevented, helping local law enforcement take down the perpetrators sends a message that crime is not tolerated in the Garden City.

That's a shame. There is such little regard for human life. What get's into people to do such a thing. Drugs? Gangs? I don't get it.
There is and I would like to see more public involvement, a lot of crimes are perpetuated by residents that do not care enough to help put these people away. Most crimes are secrets, people that know something should call in tips to help.
Hey, you learned how to hyperlink!!!
Richard, hello, always knew how since goodness...years? I thought I taught you ?
Great reporting. People just don't think anymore. It is so terrible that human life is taken so lightly.
