According to FootballCoachScoop.com, the University of Notre Dame has informed Charlie Weis that he will not be returning as the head football coach next season and, according to sources at Notre Dame, UC's head coach Brian Kelly will not be on the short list to replace him.

Long rumored to be the heir apparent to the Notre Dame head coaching position, Coach Kelly has repeatedly deflected rumors and questions about his tenure at the University of Cincinnati. Now, according to Notre Dame sources, Kelly isn't headed to South Bend any time soon.
Widely respected as one of the brightest stars in the college football coaching universe, Kelly and the Bearcats suffered through rumors last season that he may be headed to the University of Tennessee or Michigan. He reportedly turned down offers to both to remain in the Queen City. Now, with his team ranked #5 in the BCS and poised to make a run at the national championship, the rumors have once again started.
Kelly has stated on numerous occasions that he, his wife and his family love Cincinnati and that he has no plans to leave. Nevertheless, Kelly's success continues to bring rumors that he'll head to a program with a greater tradition than UC, despite the Bearcats' recent success.
For now, it looks like Kelly may very well be staying put.

its about time. i have heard that paul johnson is in line for the job.
Joshua nice way to just quote another source to post a article. Why not proclaim that the race it down to either Urban Meyer or Jim Harbaugh now that Brian Kelly is out right? Those are the top names left on the list according to your source. Why would anyone believe rumors last year about him going to Michigan after 1 year in Ann Arbor with a new coach. Get you head out of your backside and gain some credibility and tell us the Reds didn't make the playoffs because they simple did not play well enough. Then maybe you will state some facts!
Paul Johnson can get it done, however he just signed a 1 year extension at GT
I'd love to see Weiss back with the Pats!
sounds like the true hopes of a "lifelong Bearcats fan" based on some ridiculous unnamed "source" story. get ready to be disappointed. Kelly, the Irish Catholic, is ready is ready to accept his perfect high profile high paying destiny!
That link says he is on the short list. Everyone knows Kelly is on their short list, and probably the most likely to jump ship and take the job. That website has not credibility whatsoever. If these "rumors" were true you'd see it on a national media outlet. What a joke.
if Notre Dame decides to outspend other schools they can have whomever they want. The University Of Notre Dame has deeper pockets than any other school in the country, if they perceive the product is losing value they will spend the money. They have sold out the stadium consistently under Weiss, merchandising is tops in the country. Does any other school have an independent network contract? When they feel they need to, ND can spend like the Yankees. They normally haven't needed to however. For a dead program they sure do rake in the bucks. If it truly were dead it wouldn't be the biggest story in college football, as it always is, when the job is in question. People vastly underestimate the resources available at ND. If they wish to invest them at this time in the football program, they can get whomever they want.
I am not knocking the Irish -- but am tired of hearing UC has no tradition. For all the "what have you done for me lately..." UC has one of the oldest and riches traditions in the NCAA.
UC's football program is one of the nation's oldest--only Rutgers (1869), Michigan (1879), Navy (1880) and Minnesota (1883), among NCAA Division I-A institutions-- predate Cincinnati, which began the sport in 1885.
A few years later in 1897, UC received an invitation to visit New Orleans to play a football game as a reward for a successful season. The game was a precursor to the current postseason football bowl games.
