When the No. 3 Cincinnati Bearcats (12-0) take on the No. 5 Florida Gators (12-1) in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day in New Orleans, all signs point to the 'Cats looking and sounding like the home team.
Even though New Orleans is considered SEC country and, therefore, within Florida's typical stomping ground, the Cincinnati contingent of fans is converging on the Big Easy en masse.
Both Florida and Cincinnati were given an initial allotment of 17,500 tickets to sell to their fans.. UC sold their tickets almost immediately and requested additional tickets from the Sugar Bowl. An additional 461 tickets were provided to the school and promptly sold. ESPN.com reports that Senior associate athletic director Mike Waddell said he estimates that an additional 5,000 or so Cincinnati fans bought tickets through other means after the initial allotment sold out.
Florida on the other hand has had a much tougher time dispersing its allotment of tickets. As of Tuesday, the Gators had 3,000 unsold tickets from their initial 17,500. While UF will continue to try to sell those tickets in New Orleans, its beginning to look like the Superdome will be filled with red and black moreso than orange and blue.
Cincinnati has been much-maligned in past bowl-selections for having a reputation as a team that "doesn't travel well" for bowl games. Any trace of that sentiment can now be put to rest.
