Don Jose Correa is a Colombia based cigar manufacturer. The brand is not well known here in the USA. In fact, I don’t know if very many of their cigars have been imported here. That is about to change in the next few months. A Florida based distributor is gearing up to import several Colombian brands of cigars. I’ll have more details on this new start-up soon.

One of the first things I noticed about these cigars is the cellophane. It is wrapped very tightly around the cigar and instead of folding over at the foot, the cello is cut flush at the cap. It is very unusual looking. Perhaps Don Jose Correa was looking for a happy medium between protection and aging.

Once I removed the cellophane and inspected the cigar, I found a tan colored wrapper with noticeable veins. Pressing against the length of the cigar, I found it was firm with a few soft spots. I felt the cigar had good construction overall.

The pre-light aroma of the wrapper and foot was of a leathery, mild tobacco.

Upon lighting the cigar, a white ash began to form. The ash lasted a good one and a half inches before dropping for the first time. The burn was even, and produced good smoke volume. Overall, the cigar had a cool burn. It never got hot or bitter.

The flavors I found while smoking the Don Jose Correa Robusto were the same as the pre-light preview: mild tobacco and leather. It had a creamy after taste that did not linger on the palate.

Smoke time was about forty five minutes.

I feel this mild cigar would go well in the morning with a good cup of coffee. While these are not readily available in the US right now, they are certainly worth a try when they do arrive.

My thanks to Don Jose Correa and Route 45 Cigars for providing this cigar for review.

These cigars are going to make an amazing impression for cigar smokers in the states. I have had several of these cigars and everyone smoked perfectly, with a creamy, mild taste in the palate. Route 45 has an amazing selection of true Colombian cigars that will be imported real soon, I can't wait.

I think the best way to buy these is over the internet. I do not think there is big distribution for this brand.
