Chicamocha Churchill - cigar review

Chicamocha cigar band
Chicamocha cigar band

  • Filler: Colombian

The Chicamocha comes from Colombia via its distributor, Route 45 Cigars. While the cigar band says Colombian Puro, it’s really not. After a little research, I found that the wrapper is Ecuadorian Connecticut.

As I have come to expect with Colombian cigars, the cylindrical cellophane which protects the top, is truly a tube shape with an open top. This seems to be common on Colombian cigars.

The cigar has a tan colored natural wrapper and a well formed cap, There was some “give” along the body of the cigar. Just below the cap, the cigar felt “spongy”. There were a few prominent veins visible.

The wrapper and foot aroma consisted of sweet tobacco.

The pre-light draw was easy with just the right amount of resistance. I perceived more tobacco flavor coming from pre-light draw.

Once lit, there was a prominent spice sensation while exhaling through my nose.
The cigar had a good, even burn. There was a medium amount of smoke volume at the beginning; much greater smoke was produced at the halfway point.

The profile of this Chicamocha was mostly a tobacco flavor through the first two thirds with some coffee/mocha notes in the last third.

The last third really made this cigar enjoyable for me. I was concerned that this was going to be a very one dimensional cigar and was greatly surprised when the profile started to change. This has been one of the better Colombian cigars I have sampled.

Overall, I consider this a medium strength, mild bodied cigar.

Disclosure: This cigar was given to me to sample for review purposes.

Wow, that sounds pretty good. I don't think I've ever had a Colombian cigar before.
