Miss California: 'God was testing my character and faith'

Miss USA runner-up, Carrie Prejean, shortly after being jilted by the beauty pageant and much of the media says she has no regrets for her pro-traditional marriage answer given during the contest.

"I have no regrets about answering [judge Perez Hilton] honestly," she said in a FOXNews.com interview following the show, where she answered that she believed marriage should be between a man and a woman. "He asked me for my opinion and I gave it to him. I have nothing against gay people and I didn't mean to offend anyone in my answer."

Even before openly gay blogger and Miss USA judge, Perez Hilton, proclaimed that Prejean lost a chance at the crown because of "the way Miss California answered her question," on gay marriage, gay marriage advocates, including event officials, began chastising the blonde beauty contestant.

In Entertainment Weekly's report of the incident, a PopWatch reporter writes, "And, well, Miss Cali did no service to womankind -- much less the gay marriage movement -- with her stumbling answer."

Prejean, who attends San Diego Christian College, told FOXNews reporter Carrie Friel that her phone has been ringing off the hook with people offering her support after Sunday night's Miss USA telecast.

When asked how she was feeling after the pageant, the 21-year-old Prejean said, "Honestly, happy. This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I'm glad I stayed true to myself."

Prejean was also asked, "Did your stomach sink when you first heard you picked Perez Hilton's question?"

I had a gut feeling. I knew he was controversial, and so was the question. Out of all the topics I studied up on, I dreaded that one, I prayed I would not be asked about gay marriage. If I had any other question, I know I would have won. -- Carri Prejean

Prejean said she has had more than 500 facebook friend requests, hundreds of messages from people she doesn’t know, "saying how proud of me they are that I stood my ground. That made me the real winner of the night."

This was a beauty contest and when one of the participants is exposed as horribly ugly inside then any outward beauty is completely negated. The judges were correct to eliminate her and her inner ugliness.

"Horribly ugly inside?" How about "reflecting God's love for marriage between a man and a woman?"

Sorry, Ron...hope you are able to become more tolerant of this view.

Apparently, the liberal side and conservative sides are not using the same definition of tolerance. You can only "tolerate" something you do not agree with. I believe Miss California stood up for her principles. Lying would have been much easier, but she stayed true to her beliefs. She is an example to everyone. She knew what would happen when she answered the question that way and she still gave her answer. She is an example of truth, outer beauty, and inner beauty.

We live in America where we have a right to speak our mind and heart. Our opinions are our own and no one has the right to say we are wrong or how we sould feel. I support Carrie Prejean's answer. It reflected her beliefs and no one else,s. There is no contest who's character was the best. Hilton didn't even win as runner up!

News Flash! Your religion is a lie and it has no place in government and politics. We need to base our decisions on proven facts, and the Bible does not count.

What concerns me is that Carrie was apart of the contest to begin with. Wearing a bikini so that men would lust after her is not the modesty i've read in the bible. If she stood for her convictions about God she would have refused to go out on stage in a skimpy bikini. I mean to offended anyone but that is my opinion on that. I hope that because of her publicity that she will proclaim the law and the Gospel to everyone she talks to.
