Flag of the European Union
Yesterday, the largest peaceful formation of an empire began, and few in America noticed.
While it is possible that the item made some television news, the four news networks that this eXaminer checked last night failed to report about it last night the multiple times he checked.
27 nations in the continent of Europe gave up their national sovereignties to become part of a new system. Under the recently ratified Lisbon Treaty, which became effective 1 December 2009, if 15 of the 27 European nations representing at least 65% of the population of the European Union decide on a law, the remaining nations have to comply with it.
Never before in the history of the earth have so many people given up their national rights without military invasion.
One would think that this would have been a major television news item last night, but it was not (at least not in the U.S.A. on the West Coast).
The U.S.A. needs to wake up to the fact that it now has an empire in Europe with a larger population than the U.S.A. and a larger economy than the the U.S.A. But since most Americans seem to get much of their news from sources that did not emphasize this, they simply are unaware of what just happened.
This new European empire is destined to affect all the nations of the world and ultimately will not be the partner that the few Americans who know about it hope that it will be.
