Obama encourages newspaper bailout bill

The likelihood of yet another government bailout is in the works. This one would be a media bailout, and it’s getting serious. It all began with Dan Rather crying for one back in July, when he implored Obama, "to form a White House commission to help save the press," and that "such a commission on media reform ought to make recommendations on saving journalism jobs and creating new business models to keep news organizations alive." That wonderful tidbit showed up in an Aspen Daily News report. But this won’t stop with a bailout. By the way, did you notice that the word "reform" was in that request?

The Toledo Blade reported yesterday that many bills have been brought before congress for consideration, and there is one in the Senate that offers them the option to restructure as nonprofits with plenty of tax breaks. The article also reported Obama as saying, "I haven’t seen detailed proposals yet, but I’ll be happy to look at them." I guess so! You can be rest assured that one of them, if not more, would be some new version of the Fairness Doctrine, specially designed to wipe out conservative talk radio, Christian radio, and other forms of conservative and Christian media that dares to have an opinion contrary to Obama’s policies. It’s also a good possibility that the push to regulate the Internet is related to this. By the way, China, North Korea and other communist countries regulate the Internet in their countries.

Apparently, Obama’s biggest fear is that eventually, the right wing sources will end up being the only news sources available. Well, if people support what they truly want, there ought to be a lesson in this somewhere unless Washington has selective hearing that only tunes in to communism. Besides, they didn’t seem to have a problem getting ABC to push the liberal agenda this past June when they delivered World News from the Blue Room in the White House. Surely there is room for one or two others in the White House.
