'Death panels' remain in House healthcare bill, price tag now over 1 trillion

The monster healthcare bill has grown to nearly 2000 pages and is ravenously hungry for more than the original cap of 900 billion. To add to what could be called a Halloween trick, the ‘death panels,’ also known as ‘end of life counseling’ are firmly intact, according to  www.foxnews.com.    While some people may choose to take the time to create a living will and prepare in other ways, the present House bill calls for Medicare to, “pay for a counseling session with a doctor or clinical professional once every five years,” the Fox article states.

Another legitimate gripe that many raised about the healthcare bill was the cost, which wasn’t supposed to be more than 900 billion and wasn’t supposed to cost the taxpayers a dime.  Now, the Congressional Budget Office is projecting that the bill will cost $1.055 trillion, according to an article on www.drudgereport.com. And it’s allegedly the rich who will pay for it, along with making cuts to Medicare.  That’s an awful lot of rich people and Medicare cuts.  UNLESS Medicare and Medicaid are completely dismantled, and there is a forced public option (which would include replacing Medicare and Medicaid) whereby premiums will be collected.  And from whom would the premiums be collected? From those who are employed by small and midsized companies, but whose employers couldn’t afford to provide them with the “insurance exchange option” that might be made available to those who work for large companies.  The term “insurance exchange option” is language that Obama was using in his speech to the nation back in September when he talked about healthcare reform.

Interestingly, with the revised cost of the healthcare bill is also a report that “dozens in Congress” are “under ethics scrutiny.” Another Fox article. And these are the same people who are in charge of healthcare reform and telling “We the People” that the cost is now estimated at $1.055 trillion.

Wow! I thought you were a bit off the wall when you commented elsewhere, but from this article one has to come to the conclusion you can't keep facts straight at all.

Its one thing to criticize a bill. I have my criticisms. But you're so far off base trying to tow the right wing line its ridiculous.

Just for starters, no one said it wouldn't cost a dime. It doesn't take a fifth grader to know that services cost money. Nor is it clear that the "cuts" to medicare, which are cuts to subsidies in Medicare Advantage, not medicare itself, would result in lower services.

But then, you're not interested in facts. You probably couldn't keep them straight if you had them.

    Thanks for your comment Al.

Did you watch Obama's speech to the nation last month when he talked about healthcare reforms? He is the one who said that it wouldn't cost taxpayers a dime, and he did say it in his speech. And whether one wants to specify Medicare verses Advantage, whatever amount can be “found” in that bankrupt system to help offset the cost won’t even begin to touch the overall estimated cost of 1.055 trillion. Medicare has most likely never even come close to taking in that kind of money, much less wasting it.

What is so laughable is that we are all supposed to be so impressed that this debacle has been held under $900 and we still don't know what is in the "bill" (I'm afraid the word "bill" will be more appropriate than we realize) or what the actual kick in our seats will be! I don't understand people who just accept all the stuff we are fed about it supposedly being the ultimate solution to our woes.

Politics in this country is so ilegal and so shady, without any ethics. The people of this great country should show the politicians, that they cannot hijack this country for their own power and wealth and oh I forgot ego's. Vote them out.
