On December 20, 2009 Republican Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma said before Congress: "What the American people ought to pray is that somebody can't make the vote tonight. That's what they ought to pray. So that we can ... get the middle of America and the middle of the Senate a bill that can run through this country and actually do what we say we all want to do." Although no particular individual was named, it was an attempt to express disapproval for the overwhelmingly Democrat-supported H.R. 3590 Health Care Bill our Government wants to push through Congress before Christmas.
Some people believe Senator Coburn's remark was aimed at Democratic Senator Robert Byrd from West Virginia. Senator Byrd is 92 years old and not in the best of health.
When Democratic Senator Dick Durbin from Illinois took the microphone, he expressed his concern for Coburn's remarks saying "this statement troubles me and I'm trying to reach him to come back to the floor and explain exactly what he meant." Coburn did not return to expound further.
92 year old Sentor Byrd was later wheeled into the chamber, shortly before 1 a.m. Monday morning. He of course voted for the health care proposal, then perhaps in an act of defiance or exhuberance proceeded to pump his fist into the air.
As expected, the Democratic health care reform bill passed the first of three cloture votes on a straight partisan vote.

The only thing on anyone's mind outside of the health bill, was the blizzard blowing outside.
Although he didn't speak of hoping for an accident or someone falling ill, it can't be presumed that he did with over a foot of snow on the ground. COMMON SENSE would dictate that he meant someone couldn't make it due to weather travel limitations.
If you want to REALLY check out some crazy quotes check out those from Bennie Thompson (D) Mississippi
It's nice that Democrats are wanting to still distract people away from the health care bill details with nonsense such as this, but the people aren't as stupid as they were in November of 2008. I have a feeling all the left minded yo yos will see this wakeup call face to face in November 2010.
Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have 10 more months to kill the Democrat party in Washington for the next 12 years.
I and other freedom loving americans can't wait for the chance.
What do you think about the 10% tanning bed tax so that white people have to pay for skin cancer research?????
I think we should have a 10% hair extension tax to pay for cocaine rehab.
There's a good reason these are called flyover states.
Tom Coburn is an example of the worst in America
I was hoping Lieberman would stay home. He left Friday night. That had nothing to do with Byrd. Most Americans were hoping that a Dem would not show or would change their vote.
Nothing sinister about it.
I'm a klan member, I guess I deserve prayers like that aimed in my direction.
Also, I only pumped my fist in the air after the vote because I was a little delusional from all my medication and I thought I was voting to bring back segregation laws.
Medical professionals may have professional differences of opinions on various medical issue. However they tend to agree on life and death. Acoording to the CIA, out of 244 countries in the world, the US ranks 50 for life expectanciy and 54 for infant mortality.
Well, actually praying against solving the problem of having 30 million uninsured and another 25 million underinsured was only part of the prayer request. You should also be praying that that uppity Negro in the White House be smitten down, that all Moosie ragheads die horrible deaths, and that every American be required to have a cross tattooed on their head or be willing to have it blown off by a Blackwater sniper.
Yeah, that's what you should be prayin' for. That and the permanent underclass of coloreds.
