Miss Virginia, Careesa Cameron, won the 2010 Miss America Pageant Saturday night, Jan. 30, held at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada.   The competition was close with Miss California, Kristy Cavinder finishing as first runner up.  If for some reason Careesa Cameron can not fulfill her duties as Miss America, then Kristy Cavinder will be next in line to take her position.

In the preliminary talent competition, Miss Virginia sang Beyoncé's "Listen" from the movie Dreamgirls, and won a $2000 scholarship along with her $50,000 scholarship for becoming Miss America.  Miss California was also a preliminary winner in the talent competition for her Ballet en Pointe performance to the Slave Maiden Variation from Le Corsaire, for which she will receive a $2000 scholarship, in addition to her $25,000 scholarship as 1st runner up.

This money will surely be put to good use because 21 year old Kristy Cavinder is a student at USC whose goal is to become a pediatric heart surgeon.  She graduated Valedictorian from Crystal Cathedral High School, a Christian school associated with Dr. Robert Schuller's famous Crystal Cathedral church.

Another Miss California, USA, was fellow Christian Carrie Prejean from San Diego who was famously launched into the spotlight for her response to a question about making same-sex marriage legal.   So far, no such scandal looms on the horizon, although controversial talk show host Rush Limbaugh was one of the guest judges and may catch flack for anything - including his salute to the audience.

Mario Lopez hosted this year's event, as well the 2007 Miss America competition.  Mario hales from Chula Vista, CA, a suburb of San Diego.

*** UPDATE ***

AP writer Oskar Garcia reports:  During the Miss Virginia pageant last year, Cameron was asked her opinion about gay marriage, the same issue Miss California Carrie Prejean was asked about during the Miss USA pageant two months earlier.

Cameron said she believed marriage should be between a man and woman because of her religious beliefs, but she didn't think there should be laws against gay marriage.

When the judges' decision in that pageant came, Cameron said she experienced a quiet moment onstage.

"'Thy will be done,' That's what I kept saying," she said. "Thy will be done."

 - sounds like Miss Cameron is a believer too.

Here is a quote from Robert Schuller.

He is not Christian. He is new age.

I don't think anything has been done in the name of Christ and under the banner of Christianity that has proven more destructive to human personality and, hence, counterproductive to the evangelism enterprise than the often crude, uncouth, and unchristian strategy of attempting to make people aware of their lost and sinful condition.
    Time, March 18, 1985

The most effective mantras employ the "M" sound. You can get the feel of it by repeating the words, "I am, I am," many times over.... Transendental Meditation or TM... is not a religion nor is it necessarily anti-Christian.

More anti Christian comments from Schuller
For decades, Schuller said, he was a proponent of the kind of proselytizing that pushed Muslims to become Christians. Then he realized that asking people to change their faith was ''utterly ridiculous.''
    [...]

Schuller's first interaction with a Muslim group came four years ago, when Mohammed invited him to give the opening sermon at the Muslim American Society's New Jersey convention. And in 1999, he was asked by the grand mufti of Syria to preach in Damascus.

''When I met the grand mufti ... I sensed the presence of God,'' he wrote in his autobiography.

The two men, he said, focused on similarities, not differences.

''We didn't discuss theological details that might distract us ... from hearing the voice of a crying child,'' he said.

Nor did they talk about whether non-Christians were going to hell.

''In a world with crying children we have no time,'' he said.

Are "Christians" so self absorbed that they believe that winning a beauty pageant is "god's will."

What do family values Christians think is going on in the minds' of a significant number of heterosexual male viewers during the swimsuit competition? Doesn't conservative Christianity discourage lust and the provocation or encouragement of lust?

Why does a "Christian" contestant think a song by Beyonce, whose choreography and lyrics are crude and vulgar, would be appropriate to perform. On the other hand, Beyonce sees no contradiction between her professed Christianity and her performances.

It seems that many Christians prioritize belief and are concerned about the behavior of others, especially gays.

Clean up the heterosexual mess in your own house and leave consenting gay adults alone!

This article has nothing to do with Christianity. You should take it down.
