Joanna Krupa was in Los Angeles December 1st for a PETA protest outside Barkworks,
a Southern California pet store with seven (7) locations, expressing her disapproval for pet breeders and the Government which allows them to prosper.

The Dancing With The Stars alum had this to say in an exclusive PETA interview: "You know, we're trying to spread the word that breeding isn't the way to go.  Somebody needs to put their foot down and stop this breeding and these puppy mills. … [T]hey're in these little tiny cages, and all they're doing is breeding their whole life. It makes me so angry that our government doesn't do anything about it.  So I am!"

PETA hopes to let people who are thinking about bringing an animal into their home know that every time an animal is bought from a breeder or a pet store, a homeless animal in an animal shelter or roaming the streets loses a chance at finding a good home.  Each year, 6 to 8 million unwanted dogs and cats are turned over to animal shelters, and half of them are euthanized because there aren't enough good homes.

The protest in Los Angeles was also used as an opportunity for Ms. Krupa to unveil her racy new ad campaign for PETA entitled "Be an Angel for Animals."   One of the images in the campaign features Krupa posing inside a cathedral wearing a pair of angel wings and covered only by a well-placed cross, while an alternate version depicts Krupa with her canine companion, Rugby.  The campaign, shot by top celebrity photographer William Hawkes, supports PETA's efforts to promote the adoption of homeless animals.

The campaign immediately came under fire by The Catholic League who was offended by the use of Catholic and Christian imagery.  Their news release condemned PETA saying:  "In 2008, as demonstrated by the Center for Consumer Freedom, PETA killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care. Indeed, it killed an average of 6 pets a day last year at its Norfolk, Virginia headquarters, placing only seven in adoptive homes.  Between 1998 and 2008, it killed a total of 21,339 cats and dogs ... Now the animal killers have launched a Christmas campaign that exploits Christian symbols ... The fact is that cats and dogs are a lot safer in pet stores than they are in the hands of PETA employees.  Moreover, pet stores don’t rip off Christian iconography and engage in cheap irreligious scams."

Sounds like the war is on!   Merry Christmas everyone!   Please have your pet spayed or neutered.   And don't be afraid to find an animal shelter near you where lonely pets are waiting to be adopted, otherwise they will be destroyed.
