46 year old Johnny Depp has been named The Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine for 2009. This marks the second time Mr. Depp has earned that honor, the first time was in 2003. This is rather unusal since he has mostly been under the radar in 2009, while other candidates such as Ryan Reynolds (The Proposal) and Robert Pattinson (Twilight) have made big waves.
Johnny Depp however has stood the test of time. He's been a major, if not minor heart-throb since 1987 when he first appeared on 21 Jump Street. He reached true stardom with his silent portrayal of Edward Scissorhands, and reached super-mega stardom as Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's Pirates of the Carribean series.
Although Depp was born here in the good ol' U.S.A., he now lives in France with long-time partner Vanessa Paradis and their two children. The reason? Johnny Depp told the New York Post a few years ago: "I'm truly frightened of America in terms of raising my daughter here. I don't believe that is an option at all."
In an interview with Stern magazine (a German publication) Johnny Depp said: "America is dumb, is something like a dumb puppy that has big teeth — that can bite and hurt you, aggressive."
So maybe the women, and men, voting for Johnny Depp don't know about his anti-American opinons. Maybe they don't care. Or maybe it has nothing to do with being sexy. Maybe the internal does not matter nearly as much as the external. Or perhaps they agree with Johnny and if they had millions of dollars would be happy to flee America for a "better", "safer" country ... like France.
Before I wrote this article, I shared this information about Johnny Depp with my wife. She then replied "I think you're the sexiest man alive!" Although I may not have Johnny Depp's talent, money, fame, or good looks, I have to admit this over-the-top compliment made me feel good. After all, she sees and knows me inside and out. Praise God for a wife like that ... a woman who loves me for who I am - a man who loves both God and my country.

I think if actors' opinions about America were displayed on the marquee, Hollywood would go bankrupt. But short of that, moviegoers are either ignorant, or apathetic due to brainwashing by schools that tell them America is unworthy of praise.
Good for him, speaking his mind and being able to step outside the myopic American statist view of God and Country as supreme beings above all others, no matter how destructive those notions might be... if you were to spend any time thinking about what they meant, that is. Obviously that doesn't happen a lot in Mr. Girard's household, or many others', unfortunately. But here, I'll say it, too: the idea of 'America,' the world's biggest bully and the most destructive imperialist regime in the history of the world, sucks. You should really spend some time thinking about what 'America' really means, both inside and outside of the country, and then think of what you would like it to mean - do those things match up?
