3x3 Interviews: Cheryle Touchton

Say hello to author Cheryle Touchton.

What’s the best piece of advice you've received about your writing/publishing/editing career?

I was told that the single most important thing I can do is to “pay my dues” through perseverance. For me, to persevere means to keep writing and submitting no matter how many rejections I receive and to continually work on improving my writing through classes, writers conferences, and writers groups.

What’s the worst piece of advice you've received about your writing/publishing/editing career?

Some of my friends and family discouraged me from writing because they said there was too much competition. People said things like, “Do you know how many people out there are writing? You have no chance of succeeding.” My answer is that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me and if He tells me to write, I should keep writing.

How has your writing/publishing/editing journey changed your Christian walk?

Integrity and courage are important to me in writing. Every time I write a new book or article, the words I write challenge me to grow into them. It is if God sends a “test” to make sure I really mean what I wrote. By the time I finish writing something, either I have changed or the words have changed. I like “passing tests” but I definitely groan when I write particularly challenging words of truth because I know what is coming.
