Farrah Fawcett's Playboy photos, last rites and is there life after death?

The fellows, Navy recruiters, in the other room whooped with delight. Uncle Sam needed more enlistees so he sent me.

"It's Farrah Fawcett. She's in Playboy! Hey, Belew! Come take a look!'

I never went. Surely wanted to take a look, but I didn't. I still haven't seen the photos 30+ years later.

Farrah Fawcett is dying. The priest has come in to do the last rites. The fat lady is getting ready to sing. No, I am not making light of her death. The truth is we all die. I am getting closer to my moment than most.

So, what are we doing? What has Farrah Fawcett done to prepare for the eventuality of her death? What are you doing?

I genuinely hope Farrah is ready, I know God is willing to receive her.

If you don't believe in life after death, then just get on with your day.

If you do believe in life after death, the Bible answers the question on how to prepare.

If you don't believe in the Bible, get on with your day.

If you do believe the Bible, the answers to how to prepare for life after death are there.

You can start with John 14:1-6. And if you have more questions (you should), contact me in the comments.

*There is no judgement here, no condemnation of Farrah Fawcett. Indeed my heart does go out to her family and friends.

Wow! You probably have a piece of stone where your heart should be. Nothing in the Bible about compassion and sympathy? This was one of the coldest columns I've ever read.

I agree Joanie. Many hard-core conservative christians are filled with hate. Mr Belew is one of the worst. He needs to worry about himself in front of god and stop worrying about trying to witness to others.

Not sure what her pics have to do with The Bible but I would encourage you to look before you die.
God bestowed her with a gorgeous body and the pics, while nudes, were not pornographic or sinful. In fact, only God could make something as wonderful as a female body.

I suggest it is you, and not your comrades, that have a problem. Or, as most Christian pontificators, you probably already took a peek.

    Cheers!

I find nothing at all offensive in your article. Frequently we humans get so wrapped up in our concept of the world that we are unable to read the word of God and look at the larger picture. If one doesn't believe the Word, there is truly no hope in the eternity to come. The scripture you referenced was given for our comfort according to the bible, If we don't find comfort in it,(our Master's own words) we can hardly be called Christian.

If you had read anything about Farrah Fawcett, you would have known she was a devout Cathoic. Is Catholic okay with whatever your beliefs are that prompted you to write such a "taskmaster-shaking-his-finger" column?

We all die, and we make our peace with our God. For those who feel their God is the only "right" God to make peace with, I sure hope he is not taking Sunday off when you die.

While I have no personal objection to the female or male anatomy and form -- I remember Hef being interviewed about whether it is demeaning for a woman to be displayed in Playboy mag. Hef's response was that it is an honor for a woman to be featured in his magazine.

He was then asked if it was such an honor then when would he be honoring his daughter with her appearance. I don't recall the exact response but he was completely caught off guard and sputtered quite a bit -- but it was clear his opinion was quite different about his daughter appearing than the daughters of others. It was clear that he did not want that "honor" bestowed on his daughter. I wonder why?

Salvation is not about rites and rituals but about a relationship with our savior Jesus Christ, the Son of God. John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he (God) has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. Romans 10:8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”(that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Yet again, Bill Belew exploits a hot Google search phrase ("Farrah Fawcett Playboy photos") in a tawdry attempt to boost his page views.

It's called bait-and-switch, people. See his earlier post labeled "David Carradine death photo" which displayed nothing of the sort -- it was just a tsk-tsk diatribe about another fallen pop icon.

Misleading headlines are what writers resort to when their own stories can't generate any traffic.

Please be more respectful of your readers, Belew!

    @Bob.

Not so Bob. The correct term for my titles is called double entendre.

It is my intention to let readers know that the Bible has something to say about everything (almost) especially current events that are on the minds of folk right now...and yes, Google Trends is a good source, but by no means the only one.

I make no promises in my titles and I do not bait-and-switch.

Readers/comers will learn, hopefully, there is often more to be found/discovered than what they had planned on. If I can plant a nugget, a thought, a Bible verse in my readers' minds, cause them to think what they have not thought before, I have succeeded with that article.

    No apologies here.

Taking a swipe at others' articles is what folk do when their own writing doesn't get read.

Rodney, there is no such thing as a sinning Christian. You serve one of 2 masters. The Bible says plainly that NO sin shall enter in. If you have sin in your life then you ARE NOT saved and therefore you are not a Christian (not a true one anyway). The world is deceived in believing that you cant live without sinning. That in itself is contrary to the word of God. It says you will know him because you will be just like him. There was no sin in him! How manny times did he tell those in the Bible...Go and sin no more? Bottom line..if you have sin in your life then get rid of it. You can live everyday without sin...he did so we can! As far as Farrah is concerned no one really knows except her and God. If she had sin in her life when she left this world then she is not an Angel in heaven...Bible fact!

It is my opinion that we are not built for celebrity. Look at Kind David who killed so that his adultery was covered by law. His son Solomon was the most wealthy and concumbine-fortified within the richest temple that was dictated by God. And now...the geneology of Jesus Christ. It not only jumps off the blood linked path, it will shock others in the sense that if those whom He's called respond, they are in the book of life.
Anynone who accepts Christ with repenance will be received into the heavens. (John 3:16) Period. If she accepted on those terms, she is already sitting on the right side of Jesus. Period.
