Is Pluto a Planet? The Reality That Never Changes

Once a month I get the opportunity and joy to serve at Rolling Hills Community Church in Tualatin. It is impossible not to hear the conversations that go on between the six to nine people who work in the Green Room, therefore I could not help but over hear the conversation on whether or not Pluto should still be a planet. Science says Pluto is not a planet. One man said that as things change we must change our view of reality.

I thought about that on the way home. Does reality change? Did Pluto change or is it the same as it was when we first called it a planet? Science changes, technology changes, our ideas about reality change, but reality does not change. God does not change.

Someone asked me what I would do with my theology if a flying saucer landed at Yankee stadium. They asked me if I would stop praying to God. Of course not.

If we trust science, our own ability, resources, position, government, or even our own theology instead of trusting God ... disappointment is inevitable. Is God an equation to solve or the Creator who desires relationship with its creation?

Why do we ask if God can be everywhere when we know that radio waves, light, etc. can almost be everywhere? Indeed, the mind can understand that God can be everywhere, but we need to open our eyes and see, open our ears to hear and our hearts so we can align ourselves with the character of God.

The Kingdom of God is here right now. It always has been, but Jesus Christ, the boundary breaker, has made it available to you and me. He has broken every boundary that not only separates us from one another but also the sin that separates us from God. It is up to us to receive this reality that never changes. I heard Dallas Willard say that God 's presence is everywhere, but it is not manifested everywhere. Why not?

The manifest presence of God is when we become an extension of God's life and an expression of God's love. Then there will be an exhibition of God's power. God acting in my life and yours is grace and grace is interactive relationships. Grace is the reality that never changes.
