The Quiet theatre group has announced that their new play, The Beating of a Warrior’s Heart, will be presented next month in Seattle. It is an original play by Quiet’s Artistic Director, Josh Hornbeck and should create quite a discussion as the group hopes.
In the play, Grant McNamara has just returned home from the war. As he struggles to reconnect with his parents and fiancé, he finds it difficult to bear the guilt of survival and cope with the stress of the trauma he suffered in combat. Haunted by the ghosts of his dead comrades, he soon discovers that he is an unwilling participant in the battle for his soul between Ares, the God of War, and a mysterious Angel.
As an organization, Quiet places a high priority on providing practical ways in which people can take active steps to become engaged in change. So, after each performance, the audience will be given a chance to speak up the themes presented in the play with a panelist that includes some of the actors, technicians, community members, academic instructors and representatives from partner organizations.
The Beating of a Warrior’s Heart will be presented Fridays and Saturdays, August 12-27 and an additional performance on Monday, August 15. Performances will be held at the Rainier Valley Cultural Center at 3515 South Alaska Street in Seattle, 98118. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and all performances begin at 8:00 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased through BrownPaperTickets for $7 (advanced) or at the door for $10. Students and military (active, reserve, retired and spouses) can get in for just $5 with proper ID. Donations will also be taken each night to support that night’s partner organization. For more information, go to Quiet’s website.
