Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky plan to wed this Saturday, July 31 at the Astor Courts in Upstate New York, at least that is how it's being reported. Astor Courts is owned by John Jacob Astor, IV who is the great grandson of John Jacob Astor who drowned in the Titantic sinking leaving behind his second wife who was pregnant at the time. The hands-off press coverage that was honored when Chelsea's parents were in the White House still seems to be upheld as the wedding plans being released vary from hush, hush secretive to speculative in nature.

What is known is that Chelsea Clinton is the 30 year old daughter of former president Bill and Hillary Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky, 32, is the son of a politician as well. What else is known is that Chelsea was raised in a family who claimed to have Christian beliefs: By a mother who proclaimed to be a Methodist and a father who claimed to be Southern Baptist. Marc was raised in a Jewish family. Inter-faith marriages have become popular across the nation in recent years, and St. Louis is no different in hosting its share of Jewish/Christian nuptials. If married in St. Louis, the pair would have a choice between many synagogues, churches or possibly a cathedral such as the St. Louis Cathedral or a Messianic Jewish congregation.
Because the two are joining their faiths in their marriage union, when the two wed on Saturday, what kind of music will be played at their ceremony and reception? Will they have a traditional Jewish wedding and festive reception complete with Jewish music? Will they uphold the bride's upbringing and include Christian music. Or, will they have a combination of the two? Perhaps, they will break all tradition by including neither. No one knows for sure except for the bride, groom and any musicians they have hired for the day. Perhaps it would be fitting to include Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On (the Theme from the Titanic) as the bride walks down the aisle at the Astor Court. Or, perhaps the 1969 Judi Collins recording of the Joni Mitchell song, Chelsea Morning - The song which, according to Wikipedia, inspired her parents to name her, Chelsea.
Whether they choose a traditional Jewish ceremony, a Christian ceremony or a non-religious one, brides and grooms-to-be in the St. Louis area will be watching as they make their own plans. To recreate special music or themes from the Clinton-Mezvinsky nuptials, be sure to attend the St. Louis Wedding Show in early August and check out the St. Louis Shepherd's Guide for a list of Christian musicians and/or Disc Jockeys in the area.
