Teach your children to pray and build their faith in God!

When is the right time to teach them to pray? In your arms, as little children, when you pray over your food, or when someone is giving a prayer in church or home, or wherever. Teach them to bow their heads and show them how. Let them know that they are talking to the God Who made them and loves them, and bowing their head during a prayer is the way they show Him reverence. Before they go to bed at night, kneel down by their bed and have them kneel beside you. Start praying and have them repeat after you. Do this through the whole prayer, Teach them to pray for healing on those they know who are sick, teach them to pray and ask God to help them to be obedient to their parents and to love and obey God and to keep His commandments. Teach them to ask God to bless their friends and those who are striving to be obedient to Him. Teach them to always ask God for protection no matter where they are.

Teach them to ask God for His help when they need it, no matter what it is. We were living in the country for awhile when our children were little and we had a kitten that was mauled by a dog, the children were understandably upset and were afraid it was going to die, we told them to go and put the kitten in the hay loft in the barn and ask God to heal him, they did just that and the next morning they all ran out to the barn to see how the kitten was! But it was gone! Looking around for him they saw him playing with the other kittens!  Surprised and excited, they knew that God had answered their prayers!  Throughout the day your children encounter many situations and experiences where they may need God's help and you can teach them that God is always there for them!

One day shortly before our fourth child was born, the other three ran into the bedroom where I was resting and lamented the fact that they accidentally locked the closet door and couldn’t open it to retrieve something that was in there.  I tried and couldn’t open it either so I encouraged them to get on their knees and pray and ask God to help them open the door.  They did just that and when they put their hands on the door it opened for them!

Situations like this build faith in your children! Teach them to pray and to ask God for blessings and as they grow up and have children of their own, they in turn will teach their children how to pray and will help them build their faith in God! Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." That is a promise from Almighty God!
