Grant Woell, a rising Christian artist from Lansing, Michigan, is truly experiencing the best of both worlds. But, don't let his age fool you. Though he just turned 16, his songs serve a much greater purpose than those of other teen pop sensations. Writing his own lyrics, his message touches the hearts of fans much older than himself. From the chorus of his song, The Edge, he sings:
And this is a plea from my selfish misery.
Rescue my soul, from my captivity.
This is a plea from my selfish misery.
Be Still and know, only you can save me alone.
His first full length album, In the Moment, was recently released, demonstrating the growing depth of his unique vocal talents. Grant is quickly filling his summer with appearances at local churches (including Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo) but just landed his largest 'gig" to date. Performing at Lifest 2010, an outdoor festival that brings 15,000 Christian teens to OshKosh, Wisconsin each July, is sure to introduce Grant to thousands of new fans from across the country.
Still, part of Grant's appeal is the fact that he is a simple and approachable teenager, just trying to figure it out as he goes along. He personally answers questions and comments from his fans, via Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. He goes to school, does his homework, and then records albums in his kitchen. He embraces the simplicity of his youth, allowing his life to remain as uncomplicated as possible, even when blinded by spotlights.
“I think as humans, when we take a step back and really let God take over, that’s when things start to simplify.” Grant states, sharing an idea it takes most adults a lifetime to learn.
