Most of the nation is still probably in shock that the season eight winner of American Idol is Kris Allen, the small town church boy from Arkansas. Adam Lambert's victory seemed all but guaranteed for a majority of the five months the show aired. Even Simon Cowell had all but endorsed him as his pick for the winner. But in what will probably be seen as the biggest shock in it's history, Kris Allen managed to pull the victory from Adam Lambert and was crowned the American Idol at approximately 9:04 PM, Central Standard Time, on May 20th of 2009.
A matter of hours after Kris was declared the winner, youtube user passafistwastaken uploaded a video of Allen performing the song God of This City by Christian artist Chris Tomlin. As of now, the video is making a steady climb to 100,000 views as word of Allen's involvement in his church spreads. The video is embedded below for you to watch.
Kris Allen wore his faith on his sleeve with his humble demeanor and quiet gratitude throughout the entire season. It came as no surprise when people all across the nation began to say that Kris won because God helped him win. While that is not what I particularly believe, I do know that Kris got his talent from the Lord and doing his best to use that talent for HIs glory.
While it was no secret that two of the final three contestants this year were involved in their churches' worship teams, seeing one of them win was still a pretty big surprise. There have been a few other contestants in seasons past that went on to realease a Christian album, albeit they were a little bit less than successful. It will be interesting to see what kind of album Kris Allen will eventually release and how much of his faith will be allowed to be put on display. No matter the outcome, Kris Allen has a tremendous amount of talent and I'm certain he will use that talent to try and point all of America to the one true Idol.

Seeing this makes me like him so much more! He is amazing!
First, I am not from Arkansas, nor am I religious. I watched Idol weekly and never heard Kris ever mention his faith or religion. I loved his personality, his versatility and the sound of his voice. Adam's pushing the high notes to a scream and use of props and costumes was too extreme for my taste. He was only good when he sang "Mad World." We have to believe that change is coming when America chooses this fine young man as the American Idol and America is to be congratulated!
Loved it!
My family and I loved Kris Allen for his down to earth nature. He is really cool.
Thank God for the win. You deserve the win.
kris was wonderful i love his voice and he is so down to earth.he deserve to be the american idol.love it
This was a beautiful song, and Kris is a nice guy, but Adam Lambert would have made that much more!
I went to Catholic school when I was in elementary school so I think I have the right to say this; it doesn't matter if you go to Church or not, it matters what kind of person you are and how you act. That's what God wants. I'm pretty sure God didn't want organized groups in AK plotting and cheating in order to win a contest. That was unethical and Kris didn't want that.
You are awesome Kris
We all know who should have won if it was just about talent. Now you have your nice christian boy who will for the rest of his life be trying to get out of the shadow of the more deserving winner. Shame on all Christians for giving Chris the burden and false impression that he was the best.
It's amazing that people keep fighting about Kris and Adam, when the two of them have already moved on, and in fact, forged a wonderful friendship despite everything. I liked Adam too but Kris I love more, and the fact that Kris is a Christian only serves to remind us all how we as regular, everyday people can show our passion for our faith to others without being so overt about it.
American Idol has stopped being a singing contest and is now a platform for spreading christianity (tho the bigotry, and judgmentalism runs rampant through out0
But Kris is a great singer, don't need an Idol, I have one.
In a singing contest, the best singer did not win, -predudice,and judgmentalism from an certain group of peoples- won- reflective of the many voters who claim victory and Kris deserves better-he embraces brotherly love over bigotry-but Adam sang One World and A Change is Gonna Come-maybe when people open their minds and grow a heart.
How about learning how to spell? Your sentence said "Adam Lambert's victory seemed all buy (should be but) guaranteed for a majority of the five months the show aired."
I guess I'm one of those biggoted, judgmental freaks...who wanted Adam to win. Nonetheless, this probably works out best for both of them. Adam is going to be a huge star no matter what, but I think Kris needed to win to further his career. I am sure I'll be spending money on music from both of them.
Loved Kris from day one. I hope he will come to believe that he deserved it also. I thought Adam had a great voice also, but not my style of singer and his makeup and style were way OTT for me, so I voted for the one I thought would be the best for AI. I thought Kris's arrangements were really good and loved Man in the Mirror and downloaded most all of his songs from itunes.
Both he and Adam are winners and Adam even says he got what he wanted - recognition.
Kris I hope you stay humble an
Why are Adam fans still so obnoxious? i was a Kris fan from the beginning. No doubt Adam has a stronger voice, but some of us just don't like it and saw a difference between theatrics and really connecting to the song. Kris was a mad talented musician who can connect to a song, even if his voice was not stronger. We know who should have won, Kris. (and I am not from Arkansas
I think Kris is awesome. What is all this drama over religion? Kris didn't play the faith card. I don't recall him ever mentioning it during the season. Adam was ok, but just too out there for me. He'll do fine with people who like bands like Kiss, but the mainstream won't gravitate to that. The best man won in my book. And my book is not The Bible.
Had know idea Kris was a christian, just a sweet, cute and humble boy. Loved that in him, it just made his music more genuine. I thought Adam's voice was amazing, but a little too over the top and theatrical for my taste. Shame on anyone making a negative comment about Kris's faith or christianity; he is truly talented and doesn't deserve it.
Many of the American Idol's came from church backgrounds. It makes sense because every week they sing and play instruments in church. That is how many of today's singers became mega stars. Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry, David Archuleta, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, Clay Aiken all came from church backgrounds. Jessica Simpson, Katy Perry and the Jonas Brothers parents are pastors in church. Even this years contestants Scott McInytre, Michael Sarver, Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, and Danny Gokey

In other words in a singing competition you voted for Kris cause he is a Christian. PUKE!
Just remember you hero said on Larry King that he hoped he did not get the Christian vote because it's about talent not your religion.
"It came as no surprise when people all across the nation began to say that Kris won because God helped him win."
Huh? So, when Adam has an incredibly successful career, that will be because God helped him too right? This was a SINGING competition, not a "who is the holiest, who is the cutest/nicest" competition. Unfortunately, the voting system is not limited to people who can judge actual vocal talent, and not include all of these cultural and superficial judgments. It won't matter--Adam is
you know what.. I haven't read all the comments here. but i did listen to kris's song. I cried. I am sooooo glad that he got to befriend Adam(whom I wanted to win, and whom I love, and whom I think should have won this competition). but Kris is absoutely aweome. yay Kris. I just want to know Kris.. did you witness to Adam?? cause if you didn't..shame on you
yeah I know. seriously Adam should have won. no contest. Kris is cute and a good singer but. adam was the all around real idol
I'm a christian too but. seriously . Adam was the most wonderful. eccentric... dazzling performer this year. why don't we all, as christians, recognize the fact and give him his due
Kris is very talented. I don't understand how some people keep saying he is just a pretty/nice boy. It's so unfair. I am tired of some Adam fans who keep comparing him to Adam, and stepping on Kris because the one they want to win didn't win. They are 2 very different artists. Give Kris a break! We all know Adam is super talented. Both Kris and Adam deserved to be American Idol, but only one can have the title. So just let it be.
I havent't watched AI and only because of the recent media listened to both finalists. Kris may be talented, but not special and too predictable. And he will be compared to Adam a long time, because he didn't win because he was the better singer. Just listen to the Queen-song, where Adam rocks! Guess America wasn't ready for someone like Adam "outside the box".
God has many more important concerns than who should win AI, just like which football/baseball team should win the Superbowl or World Series. I loved Kris from the beginning. He is a great interpreter of music, has a great voice and can actually play several instruments. It boggles my mind when I read people stating that Adam was the better singer. He was constantly screaming. I guess some people were/are influenced by the makeup, glam clothing, nail polish and other props he used throughout t
For those who were fooled and distracted by Adam's makeup, nail polish and creative props, that does not make him a talented musician,it just makes him a TALENTED MAGICIAN. CONGRATULATIONS TO KRIS.
The BIG question that begs an answer:
Will the Kris Allen be taken to the dark side by the 'devils music'? I will NEVER do the
devils music, says Rebecca Saint James the top Contemporary Christian recording artist.
I'm sure her out spoken view is shared by many
in that industry. However there are a few Christian music stars that have managed to cross over but still kept themselves true to their original Christian music roots. By winning A.I. Kris Allen will be required to Totally ignor
Hey they were both good, but Adam was clearly the better one. At least Adam can move on and make many hit songs, while Chris is bound to American Idol. It would have been bad for Adam to have to wait, for a whole year before letting everyone hear his talents right away, which they will.
With reputable news organizations, including the NY Times, now publishing articles about questionable methods which may have been used to secure a victory for Kris Allen, the good "church going" contestant, one wonders to what level some of his supporters may have stooped in order to ensure his win. Reports of Kris Allen fan parties, where AT&T reps instructed fans on how to power text huge blocks of votes, and handed out GoPhones with out-of-state prefixes, so attendees could vote well past the

Praise the lord for capturing the authorities of this world, even capturing music kingdom as the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of God.Congratulation for winning A.I. by a worship leader with His authorised lyrics.
