Two of the developers who created Google Maps made an announcement last week on the Official Google Blog concerning the next big thing in the Google-verse. Google Wave is said to be the next generation of online communication. In layman’s terms, Wave is what you would get if you stuck email, instant messaging, Wikipedia, blogs, and file sharing in a blender and put it on high.

The new web tool will contain several features that are sure to revolutionize the way we see communication. Among some of these radical ideas are the following.

Its own terminology. In order to understand what it is you’re doing in Wave, you will have to learn a brand new lingo with words such as wave, wavelet, blip, gadget, robot, just to name a few.

Real time communication. What sets Google Wave’s real time communication a step above the rest is literally seeing what is being input on the screen as the person you’re talking to is inputting it. As in you see what I’m typing as I’m typing it.

Drag and drop file sharing. Attachments will be obsolete once Wave hits. You will be able to simply click and drag a file into the wave and it will drop in for everyone to see.

Wiki Functionality. In the same way that users can go into Wikipedia and edit the information, users of Wave will have the ability to go into other user’s waves and do any necessary editing and sharing.
