Not a Christian Country?
That statement is being kicked around a lot of late and with much gusto. The simple answer to this will depend greatly on who you are talking to. If you are discussing Christianity with certain liberals, some D.C.lobbyists, particular minority groups and those who are only interested in their own gain and / or the gain of others similar to them, you could be told that Christianity is an outdated and dying belief. You see, these folks are so wrapped up in themselves and their personal desires and in deliberately trying to being different, while insisting that they are proud of it, that they don't stop to consider the real facts of the past or the present. Or, they will insist upon their own fabricated version of the past and the present, which most suits their agenda at the moment.
The United States of America was founded over 200 hundred years ago on principles given to us by God Almighty and Jesus Christ. Please bear in mind that these basic principles were considered a standard of living in those days. What was "popular" or "politically correct" was not taken into consideration when our leaders in that day drafted our Constitution and our Declaration of Independence. Which, by-the-way, made us the first and only country in the history of the world to have its government and society founded on predominantly Biblical principles. And, also made us the first legitimate attempt at a real Democratic country.
A Democracy is a society where the majority rules. This is why our representatives are chosen by who gains the most votes during an election process. It is not a society where everyone is catered to in a court of law regardless of how far from the beaten path they have staggered. As some would lead you to believe today. And, as a side note the seperation of Church and State was placed in the Constitution so that the Government could not interfere with or rule the Church. Not to deny the Chruch access to its own Government. The thing that everyone seems to have over-looked is that the Church was a very large majority of the Government then. All the hospitals, colleges and other public services were created, supported and governed by the Church.
The fact is that Two Billion people, as of todays census, have professed to be Christians. With that being said, Christians are the largest religious group on the planet. In a recent poll Americans that have professed in being Christian or believing in God were roughly 224 million folks. There is actually a small minority in this country who are actively denying Christ. They are not the majority, they are just very loud in their proclamations!
We Christians are the majority and we have been since day one of the U.S.A. We have fed more, doctored more, medicated more, educated more, clothed more, sheltered more, hydrated more, rescued more, comforted more and yes, governed more than any other group in the world. Ever.
So, this is a Christian country if we truly are still a Democracy. Being a Christian is a great thing based upon our common accomplishments throughout human history.
Stay tuned and we will see where America goes!

Christianaity is a deception practiced by the feeble minded and the weak willed. It is a crutch for existential cripples and a fraud in which evil and ignorance festers.
We are not now, nor have we ever been a Christian nation. The founding fathers would be appalled at the ignorant superstiotion of today's Christian who believes in a literal interpretation of the Bible. More than this, they would be deeply disturbed that after over 200 years some ignoramus is trying to establish that this country is a Christian nation when they gave their life to create a secular nation.
Mullins is incompetent; he could not pass a poli sci class if his life depended on it. He has no understanding that we are a Republic, with checks and balances, not a simple Democracy where the mob rules.
Examiner needs editors to correct the blatant factual mistakes in this poorly written Christian apologetic.
If the US was founded on Christian values, then how come they had slavery of black people and the slaughter of the native Americans?
Oh wait, I forgot that these things are perfectly in tune with the Bible. Nevermind...
This is probably one of the most ridiculous postings I've read in a long time, and I agree with many of Olivia's comments. It's a shame this represents "Christian Living" in Cincinnati.
Regarding the so-called "Christian nation" and Mullins' revisionist history: The Founding Fathers were almost exclusively thinkers of the Enlightenment, not rooted in some Christian ideal. While Mullins seems to believe principles espoused in the Declaration and Constitution are "given to us by God Almighty and Jesus Christ," both divine figures are conspicuously absent from those documents. Mullins needs to take a class on basic American history since this seems to be his own "own fabricated version of the past." It's also interesting, as Drakim stated, that a nation supposedly founded on biblical principles would allow slavery and only permit white males to vote! Then again, there's always Ephesians 6:5, 1 Timothy 2:12 and 1 Corinthians 11! And don't even get me started on "traditional" marriage!
Furthermore, Mullins seems to think our representational democracy should allow for tyranny of the majority! Apparently just because there are more Christians, it's tough luck for the rest of us. Thank God Mullins is wrong on this too. Yes, Americans do often act selfishly and in ways that hurt minority populations. Can you imagine if the Civil Rights movement in the 1960's was put to a vote?!? This country might still be a hell-hole for Americans of non-European descent! Just because a population is in this majority does not mean anything. If this is a Christian nation, by Mullins definition, is this a white nation too? A female nation, since there are more of them than men?
No. This is not, nor has it ever been, a Christian nation. We have no national church, no recognized religion. Our laws are not based on Biblical canon (even only 2 from the Decalogue are legislated). However, this is a nation of Christians. Many Christians, as Mullins says, but also many Jews, Buddhists, etc.
Way to go Roger! Keep up the good work and keep telling it like it is. Any intelligent person (Christian or not) knows the true facts of history concerning government and the church. Yes, your facts are accurate. The problem with Olevil, Brat, and Dracula is that they are strongly influenced by someone who has proved time and time again to lack intelligence.
Wow. Quite interesting that instead of coming up with a reasoned argument to support Mullins' version of history, James simply resorts to name calling.
I think the issue here is not that the three other posters "are strongly influenced by someone who has proved time and time again to lack intelligence." I'm not sure who this ambiguous 'someone' is, but I'm assuming you're talking about the so-called 'liberal elite' at American universities. The people with whom I took U.S. History at the college level, for example.
Furthermore, James, I'd like to know how you're supporting the supposed "true facts" of Mullins' version of history (Oh, and are there untrue facts? I thought facts, by definition, needed to be true). Simply telling us twice that Mullins is correct, without giving support, doesn't add to the conversation. The only thing you did here was manage to be somewhat creative with your chastisement of others. For shame, James. For shame.
Way to go Roger ! You ARE doing God's work if you are keeping them all stirred up and thinking! Keep writing so I can keep reading.
I did not realize that so many atheists read Christian articles, that is absolutely God Almighty !!!!!!!
