Annual 2010 Symposium on Dating & Domestic Violence in Baltimore on Saturday, 4/10

Annual symposium creates awareness and sends an empowering message to our youth on dating & domestic violence.

The Annual 2010 Symposium on Dating & Domestic Violence and Inter-personal Relationships will take place on Saturday April 10 from 10am until 4pm at the Friendship Academy of Engineering and Technology (2500 E. Northern Parkway, Baltimore, MD.) The symposium (also called the Youth Conference) sponsored by SharperMinds Consultants is an opportunity for speakers, leaders, mentors, mentees, students and guests to gather together for a great time of fun and fellowship but also for a serious purpose. That purpose is to create awareness and promote healthy relationships and positive lifestyles particularly among youth and young adults.

The event also serves as an eye-opener and opportunity to open up the dialogue for healthy discussions on topics that are impacting our youth.

Each year the event gains the attention and support of various sponsors including authors, business owners, church leaders and even notable organizations such as Empowering Minds of Maryland’s Youth and The Etiquette Consulting Group to name a few. Major companies such as Walmart and State Farm have also shown support for the cause. This year, the Maryland Department of Human Resources will sponsor the event.

SharperMinds President and Founder Caprice Smith will address guests as keynote speaker and utilize her witty banter and humorous style to lay a foundation for a very serious message conveyed to the young people. Smith’s years of expertise as a police detective in Special Investigations coupled with a strong passion and heart to serve the youth community has allowed her to see the need for programs and events such as this one that create awareness and help educate both youth and adults. In Smith’s own words she explains “They [our youth] are not being taught the components of healthy relationships to avoid harmfulness and self destruction, like dating violence.”

Many times these discussions are not taking place at home, at school or even in the church which is why many parents, teachers and church groups have supported and partnered with Sharperminds for community outreach and events such as this one. Smith will no doubt set the tone for yet another empowering, informative and entertaining event.

She has also invited a select number of special guests including National Spokesperson of the Love Doesn’t Leave Bruises Foundation and Mrs. Maryland Essence, Tamika Hall who will also address the youth and undoubtedly leave an impact on all present.

Attendees of the symposium will enjoy breakfast, lunch, free parking, entertainment, information, vendors and so much more. The event provides even further support by granting community service hours for youth volunteers who participate. What better way to support our youth while partaking in what promises to be one eventful day with an incredible message, one that Smith lives by, "A Change of Mind...To Change Your Life!"
