Supreme court denies high school valedictorian's day in court

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court denied Brittany McComb's petition to be heard regarding her lawsuit against Foothill High School's administration. The school allegedly violated her right to free speech in 2006 when her valedictorian speech was cut short due to her references to Christ.

Reportedly, the school gave some informal guidelines to the three students that were chosen to speak  regarding speech content prior to the ceremony. Yet, no specific prohibitions regarding faith related material were ever discussed.

In the aftermath, McCombs enlisted the help of the Rutherford Institute to file the free speech suit. This final denial is the last of a long string of legal decisions that have kept this case in the public eye for nearly three years.

John W. Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute,  had this to say regarding the decision:

"This is a sad day for the cause of freedom. When the Supreme Court cannot clear their calendar to hear a case of this magnitude, then our freedoms are in jeopardy. Such censorship and discrimination should not be permitted in America."

I remember that. I even saved a picture of the girl at her home with a cross on the wall behind her. For the Supreme Court to not hear this case is disturbing indeed. How many other similar cases in the future will therefore not even procede?

I never heard about this, but that is just terrible. And yet, public schools are allowed to freely sing songs about Obama.

I'm so sad to hear that you people whom I thought I respected, will not take the time just to hear this young person's case.
Let me remind you that this country was founded on Christian beliefs and faith. For all these years because of our trust in God and Jesus our country has been so Blessed. But common sense tells me since we have turned from God,I'm afraid he has turned from blessing our country. The Bible says near the end of the world that men will become so wise that they will become fools. I pray that you will always put Jesus first in all your decisions. I'm afraid you think you have become wise.
