It seems that the all-out manhunt for San Diego’s Carrie Prejean continues. According to recent reports, the reigning Miss California is under fire again. Only this time, she is being accused of not disclosing the existence of some allegedly inappropriate photos that were taken several years ago, thereby possibly placing Prejean in breach of contract.
Apparently, the photo surfaced on a popular gossip site. Be assured that the sentiments expressed there are anything but civil. Among other things, she is regarded as a Bible thumper, homophobic and—get this—a sinner. Of course, it would be difficult to find Christians that did not consider themselves sinners. That is the whole point. We are all sinners saved by grace; including Carrie Prejean. Including me.
There are, allegedly, additional breaches including her recent filmed appearances at her church in San Diego. The bottom line is that pageant officials are clearly not going to stop until she is ousted. Given the shrillness of her accusers and the severity of this relentless assault on her character, I have to wonder if that photo would have been an issue had she chosen to take the easy way out in that life-altering moment on the national stage.
As the days progress, this is moving onto a much larger theater with even larger stakes. San Diego believers, we need to be praying for Carrie Prejean. She is our very own and she needs our support.
Do you remember Stephen from the book of Acts? He stood in front of a counsel of religious judges and told the truth. These judges were opposed to Stephen’s ideas. The thing is that they already knew what he was about prior to his interrogation. They purposely staged a question that would put him in peril. Stephen had a choice. He could either deny Christ, be given clemency and maybe even acceptance or he could openly proclaim his position on the matter and risk death. He chose the latter.
Acts 7: 54-58 tells the story. In short, they killed him because he would not compromise his beliefs publically. In many ways, Miss Prejean is going through something similar. Although they do not seek her physical life, they desire to make a swift and severe move to destroy her publically along with the values that she shouldered in front of the whole country.
To Miss Prejean:
Should you read this, do not forget that, breach of contract or not, you are a daughter of Christ. This is your highest crown. It is a crown that endures and nobody can take it. There are those in the world who will always look to villify you, because of your values and even sometimes your witness. Let them. In Christ, you find your being; not pageants, gossip sites or the fickle surge of the crowd. God has a plan to prosper you, not to harm you. And while it may feel like it at times, you are not alone in your struggle. But, I would remind you of what Stephen said, even as he was being murdered by the offended mob:
... "Lord, do not hold this sin against them."
-Acts 7: 60

Carrie, know that you are in our prayers. Stay strong sister. Mike, great article brother. Keep up the great work. Sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts and be ready always to give an answer for the hope that is in you gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame.
T. Michael, you really touched my heart with your message of brotherly love for Carrie. It's just terrible that anybody should have to go through this kind of abuse. It reminds me of the early days of the Church, persecution and martyrdom was the norm. My prayers are with her and her family. I've added you to my favorite examiners.
Rob--Amen.
Thanks Theresa. As is typically the case, those on both sides will parse out the minutiae of this drama with exacting precision and, at times, lack of regard for the consequences. Somewhere in the middle of this feeding frenzy, is Miss Prejean; a young woman who, is suffering and who needs support.
Keep on sinnin' baby! Jesus' got your back!
It's easy to "say" you're a Christian. Now prove it.
Juggie girls strutting for Jesus seems oddly out of step with the Gospel, but maybe I haven't read enough. As for the feeding frenzy, isn't Prejean the one who chose to tart up for the nation and expect to be a mouthpiece for righteousness?
Got something to say?
